WARNING: PERSONAL STORY FUSED WITH WALL OF TEXT APPROACHING

It's weird that my least favorite Britney album also yeilded a quartet of songs that really really helped me out. After I stopped using, it got really hard to re-acclimate myself back into normal society. I threw myself back into school, got myself a job I don't think I deserve (somehow I passed the drug screening and I still have no idea how I passed), and to be honest, I wasn't sure if I was doing what was right because I really didn't feel like I belonged, especially as someone who kicked major ass both socially and academically before. Alien really struck a chord with me, because it put words to something I had been struggling with for a long time, and it reminded me that I'm not alone (not alone not alone :P)

Hold on Tight definitely helped put things into perspective for me, because before I really committed to putting things behind me, I relapsed several times. I was kinda a badass back in the day, but now it's just sad, and in all honesty, when "the cinema fades away" and you realize you're in a pretty dark place "a long way from home," you've gotta make a change and keep it that way. I see a big Christ parallel in HOT, and I've since kept quiet and rediscovered my spiritual side that I've numbed over the past few years. It's been great :)

As part of my huge effort to reclaim my life's direction, I moved across the United States and left my old city, away from all the influences and habits, to start new, away from my wasteful life in a hateful city. Kinda like Alien, NTIFY put into words the second half of my experience, where I slowly became more optimistic about my life and recontextualized my whole experience before. Because, candidly speaking, I can now look at my life and see the enormous change and it really makes me happy. I completely understand "I can see the light / I have flown away / I have come alive / I am blown away" because I am blown away by what I have now, and the love I've felt (even from you guys ). I can live my life, and I believe in faith, and now that I've found myself again, I've lost the hate.

I have no idea who I can thank other than some divine authority for the turn around, but even then, I know that said deity will only meet me half-way. No other song has motivated me to get off my self-loathing ass and realize a bright new future for me than Work Bitch. The entire song is about working towards your goals and basically being a totally different type of badass, and that's something I can subscribe to.

So there you have it: Britney's much-maligned "personal" album turned out to be pretty personal for someone like me. The rest of it is poorly misguided will.u.not fodder and sloppy seconds, but there's always a bright side y'all :yesplz:

alien: 10/10

work bitch: 10/10

perfume: 8/10 - I actually really like the vocals on this song

it should be easy: 2/10 -gravest of errors. It Should Be Exterminated tbh

tik tik boom: 1/10 - probably the greatest lapse of judgment. Jumping on the pseudo-trap bandwagon ughhhh just do it right the first time and lead instead of follow :icanteven:

body ache: 2/10 - ear ache

till it's gone: 3/10 - reductive 2011 trash tbqfh, it's a shame the rather thoughtful lyrics had to be tacked onto such a dated track

passenger: 5/10 - not the Diplo I signed up for

chillin with you: 5/10 - it's funny to listen to and joke about, so at least it has a purpose

don't cry: 9/10 - the synths and guitar in this are actually quite on point. Ear candy for me

brightest morning star: 6/10 high marks for the verses, not too keen on the rushed chorus

hold on tight: 10/10

now that i found you: 10/10

U better werk bitch...I'm so happy for you and proud of u and I don't even know u but that's seriously great to hear

And I loved that flop Jean shade :reductive::queenflopga:

Alien: 6/10

-Not that special of a song to me. The verses are good, but the chorus becomes trite and headache-inducing.

Work Bitch: 6/10

-The first time I heard it, I had to ask myself why Britney would make a song that just sounds...like an XM radio BPM station reject. It's good to dance to, but I personally just can't get into it. When I think of Britney, I think of good pop music. This does not fit that description.

Perfume: 5/10

- Sia could have done much better than this with songs like "Breathe Me" and "I'm in Here". Britney could have done better than this with songs like "Everytime", "Let Go", "DLMBTLTK", and "Baby Boy". Also, their voices don't mesh well to me. I give the dreaming mix a 6/10.

It should be easy: 4/10

- This sounds like the Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D." album but cheaper. I have been done with the generic edm for a while now.

Tik Tik Boom: 3.5/10

- T.I. ruins the song for me and it is unforgettable.

Body Ache: 4/10

- It's okay. Again, I'd hear this on the satellite radio dance station on a Wednesday afternoon.

Till it's gone: 8/10

- I actually like this one. The lyrics are nice although the dance style lowers it's uniqueness. I will say it is the best sounding dance track on the album. But like so many of the songs on Bj, they didn't bother with a decent chorus.

Passenger: 4/10

-Never liked it. Not impressed with Sia's work on this album at all. Go listen to Sia's music, then listen to BJ, and then realize why she gave Britney some of her worst work.

Chillin with you: 3/10

- The idea is cute. The execution is not. Little Me and JLS' song about Brit >>>>>>>

Don't Cry: 7.5/10

-One of the better songs, imo. Not the best, but I don't dislike it.

Brightest morning star: 4/10

-Sweet concept, but seems a tad childish for a personal album by a 32 yr old woman. If it was of a different music genre, I'd like it more.

Hold on tight: 9/10

-Best ballad on the album. She sounds great and the lyrics aren't too chessy.

Now that I found you: 6.5/10

-Would be better if isn't so similar to AVICII's style. The sound isn't anything new, but I like it enough. The chorus, however, sounds juvenile in terms of the music.

So obviously, I do not like Britney Jean. If a personal dance album was truly what they were going for, then they should have taken notes from Kaskade's "Strobelight Seduction" album. It's dance music, but mature and beautiful to listen to. Kaskade>>>>>>Will.i.am in all regards.

In my opinion, never should Britney have music that sounds like BEP and Katy Perry demos. With her discography, writing and composition abilities, and status, I just expected more from Britney Jean.

So.... :overitkbye:

MTE!!!!! i found it really hard to review this album because the sound is like something from The Black Eyed Peas like 7 years ago.

I honestly dislike this album very much and was very dissapointed when the first listen of britney jean appeared online.

And last, most of the songs are very forgetable..sometimes i don't remember all the songs in this album

So im going to put only the songs that stand out for me first:

1) Work Bitch: a little generic (like everything in this album) but its a catchy song with a great video 8.5/10

2) Alien: i don't like her voice that much in this song but its a good song with good production, gives me madonna vibes 8/10

3) Don't Cry: produced by one of the guys from Foster The People, you can see his influence in the whistle part and i really like the rhythm. The song could be better with better  lyrics chorus "this is gonna be our last goodbye",etc.. sounded something from a 14 year old girl. Anyways the song is still good   8/10

4) Now that i found you: it could have been great if it wasn't a copy of  Wake Me Up from Avicii. This could possibly be the best song in this album 9/10

5) Tik Tik Boom: again, generic with basic lyrics. But i was hoping this album went in this direction..more urban and sexy so this definetly stands out for me 8/10

6) Til its gone, Body Ache: they are ok songs with nothing different from what david guetta, axwell, swedish house mafia have been doing for years. Where's Britney in these songs? Who knows. 7/10

7) Hold On tight: this song is actually not that bad. A little forgetable but one of the best lyrics in the album. Maybe i was bored with the first songs of this album that never really paid attention to this one. But this direction better than the EDM in most tracks 7.5/10

8) Passenger/ Perfume:  i don't get what the fuss is about with these songs. Im not a fan of her vocals here but if i have to choose one i would say that Perfume vocals are a little better. Passenger 6/10 Perfume 7/10

9) Brightest morning star: this can be one of those personal songs in her "most personal album to date". Again, i think the production of this song kills the soul in the beautiful lyrics. You can have the same lyrics with a different beat and her original voice and it could be x10 times better. Her voice sounds a little childish too, with all that autotune.

10)  It should be easy: WTF with this autotune mess in her voice? like really? i think Nicky Romero did a great job with the beat of this song but that much autotune in Britneys voice killed it for me and Wil.I.am didnt have to sing in this (3 songs of them together? enough!)

11) Chilling with you: 0/10.  (Rebecca Black is that you?!?)This song is so bad its not even funny.  I think i never listened to this song completly. Its a shame because it could have been better Jamie L. is very talented. This song is for a 13 year old girl, not a 32 yo mother of 2 kids. And again..autotune autotune.

Tbqfh :mhm: The entire album is just a big NO for me.

no..

just no..

:4music:

okay, don't get me wrong, the Britney ERA >>>>> BJ era

However, when we're simply talking about the albums, BJ is soo much better. It had some misses, but material like Work, Passenger, and HOT are 1,000x better than most of the Britney album.

Besides Slave, Overprotected, and Not a Girl, Britney is the most bubblegum fluff album of hers. :eeek:

But I mean, I love all her albums, that's just my least favorite! :)

thanks  life is amazing and I have great friends, and super supportive family, and all of y'all :) LOL I can't believe I've motivated someone to give BJ a second opportunity :o no promises, but those four songs (Alien, Hold on Tight, NTIFY, and Work Bitch) to me form a great arc in my life. Knowing that Brit went thru something comparable to what I did, just on an immensely larger magnitude, provides some great context to the songs too :mhm: stay flawless dahling :bomt:

yes I have and honestly BJ slays it so hard. Britney is my least fave Britney album.

M.yah Jean didn't slay anything but Britney's chances at reaching #1 slave shits on everything on the bj album :reductive:

Sweetie Britney is a much more mature album than flop Jean

Body ache, chillin with you, perfume, work bitch, it should be easy....such mature songs ya kno :zoomzoom:

Posted

Floplien: 4 - Melody is weak, vocals are weak, lyrics are decent. Overall mediocre... sounds like a Madonna rejected demo. :lul:

Work Myah: 7.5 - A good dance song. Not what i wanted for this album but at least it's catchy and well-produced.

Too bad Myah is there and sings even more than Britney :notimeforu:...

Poorfume: 6.5 - It's catchy and features good vocals, but it has AWFUL lyrics (mark my territory? Seriously? :lykeokyea: ). The lacking of a climax destroys the song, that could have been way better.

It Should Be Erased: 5.5 - Melody is quite catchy, but vocals are unacceptable and the absence of Britney in the chorus it's just... meh. :xf8:

Tik Tik Myah: 6 - Good melody and decent production, but the T.I. featuring is horrendous and those final Myah adlibs are :4music:. With better lyrics, no fucking Myah and a great bridge instead of Flop.I. it could have been a very cool song.

Ear Ache: 3 - Terrible. It sounds unfinished, the structure of the song is bad, the chorus is boring, lyrics are basic. It sounds like a rough demo for Scream And Shout. And Myah totally slays the second verse :pieceofwhat:!

Till It's Flop: 4 - I don't know why fans freak out so much over this song. Lyrics are actually decent, but vocals are totally plastified (Myah is dat chu on those pre-chorus :nowaygif: ), melody is banal, production is OLD. It sounds like a remix for some 2000 unused demo.

Myahssenger: 6 - This could have been the best song of this album and one of her best tracks ever. It's still quite enjoyable, but Myah sings the ENTIRE chorus and bridge (not to mention the Keyyyy-YYYY-yyys and the infamous RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE :displeased: ) and the production is too rough and demo-ish. Passenger should have been a masterpiece...

Chilling With Myah: 2 I don't know what they were thinking when this song was written. Just horrendous. And Myah is still there slaying those Britney vocals. :zoomzoom:

Just Cry: 6 - Cute melody, decent lyrics, but it's lacking a bridge and some climax. It's a little "childish" too. :okbye:

Darkest Morning Myah: 5 - It's sweet, cute, nothing more. Production is basic and those chorus are unlistenable. :verycool:

Hold On Tight It's Almost Over: 7 - It's a good song. Some parts are too much autotuned (the bridge), but overall it's really refreshing (especially after things like Body Ache or Chilling With You). Really good lyrics ;) too!

Now That I Found Myah: 7 - Very catchy, verses SLAY, decent vocals, decent lyrics. If the chorus were different and not so Avicii this could have been a little masterpiece! :uh huh:

TOTAL: 4.5 :ewh::thinkingpinky::ewomg:

Some good songs (with mediocre production) and some bad songs (with bad production). Vocals are overall unacceptable (do I have to mention Myah Marie again?), lyrics are decent in some parts but generally lacking, songs sound unfinished and uninspired.

After Blackout, Circus and Femme Fatale (three extremely good pop records) this is a total delusion.

Bye Will.I.Am! :whatever: Bye Antony Preston! :walkaway: Bye Myah Marie! :icantttt:

I really don't know what Britney and her team were thinking when putting this record out... ;(

Oh shit! :oshit: And I thought mine was harsh!

But did you lie, tho? No. :bomt:
