Spurred by a thread in General about pregnancy and abortion, I saw a lot of people come out against abortion, which is pretty interesting (at least, to me #politicaleconomymajorhere :gloria: )! Over time, I've noticed that many Britney fans (at least on Universe, I didn't spend too much time on exhell) are more conservative than other stanbases like the Little Monsters and the Hive, possibly stemming from:

  • Our fave doesn't whore herself out to whatever's convenient actively speak out for and support lightningrod social issues like LGBT rights or feminism, but rather supports hard work ethic and personal responsibility
  • Our fave was born in Mississippi and raised in Louisiana, which aren't really bastions of American liberalism :trollney:
  • Our fanbase is a bit older than others (i.e.: we have real jobs and actually pay taxes. We work bitch)

Would you agree with my assertions? I know it's broad generalizations, but it's based on some noticeable patterns. Where would you place your political beliefs? Are you more liberal or conservative? Are you more moderate or hardline? Are you a mix? Do you hate politics and just like Britney?

Discuss :inneresting:

P.S.: As an aside, I've used "liberal" and "conservative" instead of "Democrat" and "Republican" for our equally-flawless non-American stans :)

P.S.S.: Be respectful of each other's opinions and beliefs! We're Universe, not some other forum. We got standards :shankyou::likethat:

I believe both the conservative and liberal sides uphold patriarchal standards (just in different ways) and that society will remain in disarray no matter who is in charge. Therefore, I support neither party.

And the stances I saw on abortion in that general thread were surprising and disheartening. I personally can't get behind someone saying they are 100% against a procedure that could possibly save/change a life (the mother's) or spare one that will end just a few minutes or days after it begins (the fetus).

I actually have a wordpress.com blog on feminism and societal and political issues with regards to the female sex, with the occasional focus on black females. As my writings are posted under an anonymous pseudonym, I won't share it here. But just thought I'd mention that.

So I guess my choice is "Britney is love. Britney is Life" Leaning towards liberal in terms of wanting equality for ALL people.

Godney be praised :Godney:

SPEAKING of politics, tell me why the actual White House has a Vine account

.... :w8wut:

I'm a liberal all the way. I took a political spectrum test and I'm exactly where Gandhi is on it. And I'm from redneck Alberta Canada where people are all cowboys, natives, or oil riggers tbh and I hate that about it here  :idontlike:

Also, going to find that abortion thread now and hopefully have a decent conversation with people about it as there's been pro-life protest at my university all week and they're not your regular pro-lifers - they're extremists and it was baaad so a decent convo about it would be nice.  :)

i am a liberal not that is matters in the republic of ireland because our country is basically fucked economically for generations to come no matter who is in leadership. everyday in 2013 250 people left the country to find work thats like around 80,000 people who have emigrated in 2013 which is alot for a population of around 3.9 million.  also they have now introduced water charges where you are charged a flat rate and then after that it is on a metre. i wouldn't mind but the money you now pay for water is not going back into making the water systems better it is used to pay off  the bank bailout debt. in my mind politicians are all the same in my country they are lying scheming people who make sure they are okay. it is okay for them to make up new taxes and charges and make out it is no big deal because they are within a wage bracket that it will not really effect their lives.

also i believe in the right to choice in relation to abortion, abortion in not legal in Ireland. there was a case recently where a woman called savita hallappanavar who was a dentist. she reported to the hospital  with foetal distress she requested an abortion but they refused to  help her because her foetus still had a pulse even though the foetus was not going to be viable .in ireland a woman can only get a abortion if her life is in danger the criteria  for life in danger is high. so the woman had to go to uk for an abortion well anyway on the way back from england after getting a  abortion  to remove the non viable foetus she developed septicaemia and died.this wouldn't of happened if the hospital agreed to the abortion of the non viable foetus that waiting caused her to develop septicaemia.

This is just asking for arguments to erupt. If u want to keep the peace never discuss politics and religion. Someone's bound to get upset.

If it comes a point that someone is angry with this thread then they can just simply ignore it. Nobody needs to start a argument of nothing.

Because I want to be able to vote in the primaries for the democratic party. As an Independent, I can't do that.  :mhm:

Ah, interesting. :nailbiter: I really don't get this politics stuff lol ofc that's why I stay away from voting. I don't want to vote for the wrong person  :omgosh:

Politics are difficult and all you can really do is research the candidates to your best ability and try and make the best judgment call based on your wants and beliefs. I think voting can be important .. especially in the primaries.  I really wanted Hillary Clinton as the primary democratic candidate in 2008, but I was registered as an Independent then so I couldn't participate in the vote. Kind of stinks. That's when I made the change in my party affiliation.

I generally only vote in the presidential elections. I haven't participated in any other types of elections or events because I consider myself too ill informed to have any type of say or preference in the matters at hand.
