Obviously that catchy and iconic hook to TD has been used by a lot of musicians through the years. What's your favorite? :)

Also, don't think you're dissing Brtney if you pick another. I'm talking about the track, NOT the performer. :mhm:

Personally, I've ALWAYS loved TD. I was so shocked and excited when Britney covered it, but I did not expect to like it more than the original. But I was wrong; it's even better than the original! BY FAR. :bigtime:

What's your favorite? :D let's discuss the remakes and the tracks.

I think it's too early to say. I love the 90's remix but I've heard it so many times that it's refreshing to hear Britney's take on it, and so I'm inclined to favour that one. Need to wait a while before I can objectively say which one is better.

Not to diss the original because I like it still. But listening to the original AFTER listening to Britney's is just not the same. BRITNEY added a bit more darkness and mystery on top of what the original had.

Nah. I grew up on the original and it's a big part of my childhood. Nostalgia and all. I get very protective of songs that I grew up with like that lol. But I was surprised with her take on the song and thought she did a good job. I ended up liking it more than I thought I would, but the original still has my heart.

i like Britney's version better but I wished they had included the last verse too

I agree. But it's more than just a verse, it's like half of the song.

There's a woman

On the outside

Looking inside

Does she see me?

No she does not

Really see me

'Cause she sees

Her own reflection

And I'm trying

Not to notice

That she's hitching

Up her skirt

And while she's

Straightening her stockings

Her hair

Is getting wet

Oh, this rain

It will continue

Through the morning

As I'm listening

To the bells

Of the cathedral

I am thinking

Of your voice

And of the midnight picnic

Once upon a time

Before the rain began

And I finish up my coffee

And it's time to catch the train

I really love Britney's version, but it feels too short, even though they added some parts with just the instrumentals to make it a little bit longer plus Giorgio's bridge.

I wonder if Britney didn't record these parts on purpose, or it was Giorgio's decision not to include all of that.

Suzanne Vega is a true artist, and I will always stand by her contributions to folk artistry. She has such a beautiful voice!

However, I chose Brit's version, because I find it more compelling as a concept. The new ending gives it a whole new meaning, Brit's take (and the fact that, of all people, it's Britney who's singing it) gives it a voyeuristic and alienated atmosphere that is distinct from the stream-of-consciousness artist monologue that Vega gave her original.

Let's all get something clear though: Giorgio Moroder's chord progression is miles ahead of DNA's remix. He really knows how to get a song constantly driving forwards, and the real genius of the song lies in the always-pressing-forwards instrumental interludes between each verse. The vocoding is also masterfully wrought. I'm a fan :)
