Almost one year ago she said she wanted to experiment with her new music and do something more artsy fartsy. When Tom’s dinner was released I was thrilled because this song is so unique in every possible way and I thought that this is perhaps an indication of her new direction musically.

However, pretty girls was released. It’s a fun song of course and something different from what she has done so far but it sounds like a song that a singer in her very early 20’s would release…

All around the world, pretty girls

Wipe the floor with all the boys

Pour the drinks, bring the noise

Britney Jean, even though it was weak in many ways, it was way more mature and there were traces of experimentation (like alien and passenger). Actually her recent discography was way more mature than her first albums in general.

Then she comes back with pretty girls and she is 33. I don’t mean that she is old, I mean that it’s her 9th album, she is 33, she has been through hell and back and she is way more mature than when she was 20 years old. However, this is not reflected in her music.

Do you think songs like Tom’s dinner, alien, passenger and generally upbeat music with more mature lyrics is something that Britney should aim at this stage in her life?

Do you think that she should probably try to gain more mature fans instead of aiming to teens?

Do you think that at some point it will look weird to sing about teen experiences?

:tea2:

Songs that I think fit Britney more at this stage in her life and she released them years ago:

Of course there are soooo many more songs but almost none of them was released as a single... :4music:

I'm wondering if this is one of the reasons that people still don't take her seriously...

Yes, Britney should grow up musically. A lot of her songs from her teens and twenties (Britney thru Circus) are more fitting to her age and abilities as an artist than songs from FF to Pretty Girls.

And her best songs from FF/BG were not released. Hold on Tigt, Alien, HATLM, etc.

Going off a more mature sound, she peaked during ITZ, Blackout, and Circus. Lyrically, her peak was during the same period, including 'Britney'.

Pretty Girls is too childish for my tastes. Britney is one of the only pop singers I listen to, so a song like PG is not something I typically would want to hear. Tom's Diner, however, is great.

Well, I would love her to experiment with different and not-so-popular types of music, speak about her experiences in life and, as you said, show how she has grown up musically, but at the same time I don't want her to give up on her signature, carefree and poppy sound. I think it's all about keeping a good balance between both styles. Artists should be allowed to swing between all kinds of sounds and don't "lock" themselves into a cage of mature or childish music.

I'm sure her team is aware of this but she also likes to have fun at the same time. I don't think she has to stop recording these kind of songs just because she's getting older now. She's most likely going to start to release more moody music and such but just be aware that when she starts "growing up musically" her whole image will have to change and she's going to have to work to rebrand herself in that manner. If she's planning on taking a step or two away from performing then I wouldn't expect much because it would make no sense to do all of that and then to go on a hiatus.

What I think is she's going to do more love songs but she's still going to have this dance element to her. I would be extremely shocked if she started singing songs that we're about anything much more serious than that.

She always has a good balance of both imo, and that's what I enjoy. Sometimes I just wanna listen to something carefree and "childish" and sometimes I want something a bit more serious and mature. And with Britney I can always find both on her albums, and I like it

I agree, even if i like Pretty Girls the lyrics are pretty bad imo. I really would like her to sing more mature things.

Honestly i feel like there is whole world between her music and who she is/what she says. I mean, i'm not saying her music has to look like her, but you know it's kinda funny how she says that she's a mom now, she doesn't feel comfortable doing some things anymore, she's ALWAYS talking about her kids etc.. And yet she's still there acting like she's 20yo, singing about superficial things, whatever. Even some songs in her 20s were more mature than what she is doing now, and there kinda was a correlation between her lyrics and the person she was at that time.

It's like her image doesn't fit her music anymore you know. That's probably also why GP probably doesn't really feel her music anymore, because the lyrics are bad and doesn't fit Britney.

I do feel more mature themes would get her to be taken more seriously, yeah, along with her natural voice now and then, I just wouldn't want it to be boring. I prefer fun, upbeat, lively music like Toxic, MATM, Gimme More, stuff like that. If the music would still be fun just with mature lyrics, I'd be down.

But with that said, I wouldn't want an album full of seriousness, life is serious enough, entertainment doesn't have to be.

Definitely. I think her team will do this evenually, because there'll be a time when she won't be appealing as a young fun pop artist anymore. You can tell she grew tired of playing her pop hits a few years ago.

Of course they will try and sell this transition, but I'm afraid they are not smart enough to produce a mature/deep Britney sound tbh :tea2:

Honestly it can have more mature lyrics, or at least lyrics with a meaning, without the music itself feeling serious of boring tbh. I mean, the best example would probably be i wanna go, the music itself is very generic, but the lyrics aren't that basic or childish, you know?

She could still doing fun music if she wants to, but now in her stage of her life having more mature lyrics would be better and i'm sure people would be more interested.

i miss blackoutney. her best album :fierceney:

Blackout is the answer to anyone who wants mature and fun music. In the Zone, too.

The thing is, Britney obviously isn't a party girl anymore. Hearing her sing about jumping to the front of a line and sitting in VIP is totally unbelievable and getting old.

maybe she can do songs in the blackout style but without singing about having sex and parties?

I wouldn't want her to lose the dancing and upbeat element in her music because what I like most about her is the fact that she is a performer and a dancer and not just a pop singer. However, you can have a mature upbeat and fun sound without making it "childish" and you can do the same with lyrics.

Of course it wouldn't make any sense for her to talk about politics and human rights because she is not into that stuff and it would be hypocritical. Just making music that reflects her personality, her maturity without losing the pop element.

If she wants that transition she needs to experiment A LOT and she needs to do that because she is an artist. She can't just choose random songs from producers that sound good at the moment. She needs to go deep...

Clearly, yes.
She should go for something more mature & personal.
Use music to express herself and let us know her a little bit more and her experiences through her music and maybe feel a little identified with the lyrics(She really should write her own songs. We all know she's capable to do it.).
Experiment with new genres, new sounds. Do some fusions.
Play with her vocals in a natural way, without that much edition. She have such a beautiful voice and I don't know why her label/team doesn't allow to the world to hear it.

One of the the reasons why ITZ is my fav album is because in someway was kinda experimental and a little mature compare to her previous albums.
I like Pretty Girls and would have been cool when she was in her early 20s but now is...
She needs to grow up musically and show to the world that she's more than just another pop star with catchy music staying in the business just because she made history.
She should keep trying make history or at least do something that is really worth it...
I don't want her to end up like Madonna or worse...  :boring:
(But the probabilities to see all this thing happen are null, so...)

yeah i think any really inspiring song (even if it's cheesy as fuck) has a big potential of becoming a hit but i gotta say that at this point all i care about is a great song LYRICALLY and music wise too. i havent heard a song i could relate to from her since like Circus i think  :crying1:

I agree, FF and BJ were pretty childish, at least the singles were. Pretty Girls is a fun , chill song, but the lyrics are so pointless tbh :gloria: she matured A LOT, with blackout. Even tho the album was stripped off balads , the lyrics were really good and smartly done :mhm: plus the whole dark concept perfectly described her inner state at the time. Circus was also really good and mature, cuz it also described her inner state a lot, I always considered womanizer to be a super smart song, and related to Kfed :tbh: Circus was all about her tbh and how shes rising, and iusa well, how ppl dont know shit about her , they cant not love her. And then ff and bj were just.... :umno: I wish she kept on with her mature sound but i guess she doesnt really wanna try anymore. She'll just record whatever to make us happy for a bit :gloria:
