Yes and no offense you can see why she/producers adopted a stage name. It's a fine name but doesn't exactly fit her image. Same with judy garland.

To provide some more info:

She was born Norma Jean Baker/Mortenson (her mother's maiden name was Baker but when she gave birth she was married to someone with the last name Mortenson, a guy who was not the father). Marilyn took her grandmother's maiden name Monroe and she simply liked the name Marilyn. Some people have suggested that she chose it because the silhouette of your fingers can make two M's.
