Circus is one of those albums that the tour and music videos/singles saved it. The single choices slay but the album itself is wildly inconsistent:

Womanizer 10/10: Iconic and it was great to hear Brit in the hands of producers not in her close circle. I always have a special place in my heart for Sassney. Also the mv is really fun, and you can tell she had fun making it

Circus 10/10: the quintessential modern Britney single. A militant beat, tightly produced and with a killer pre chorus, Circus the song is pop perfection. The mv is equally flawless.

Out from Under 5/10: it's serviceable but we've heard better. Also, OFU also serves as a perfect example of how much I hate the vocal production of Circus in general: overlayered, overproduced, and tasteless. What made Blackout great was the balance between a singular vox track and your typical multilayered Brit vocal track, often used for emphasis or a pop in a chorus or witty verse line.

Kill the Lights 7/10: the songs good but the beat in specific always feels like its lagging behind Britney's fierce delivery.

Shattered Glass 6/10: the song is good while it lasts, which isn't that long. It foretells what will eventually become a chronic Britney problem of issuing out prime time tracklist placement to unfinished ideas (see: Britney Jean)

IUSA 10/10: slay my soul Confidentney! I also LOVE the Max Martin production here. The bouncy perc section, especially the timpani makes it dynamic and energetic.

Unusual You: 9/10: if the topic wasn't about angels and how alien and foreign they are, I would have a huge problem with the vocals but the production fits. Also, I love both the lyrics and the chorus melody + the fact that its a complete idea

Blur 7/10: flawless instrumental production, less than great vocal production, and one hell of a weak ass bridge, though, I'm grateful it has one at least. Still, it's a great song and it doesn't deserve the malignment it often gets from the base

Mmm Papi 2/10: Between Dangerous and Mmm Papi, THIS is the Nicole Morier submission they pick? :icanteven:

Mannequin 1000000000/10: Not only easily the best song from the album, but also one of Brit's best songs period. Fuck the vocal production because let's be real here: whatever garbled nonsense is spewing from the Goddess of Pop isn't the focus here: it's the perfect instrumental that's at the forefront and it slays entire civilizations with its wall of synth + random guitar breakdown formula.

Lace & Leather 7/10: damn I love me a good slap bass, but the verses are a bit too boring. I like the progression of the chorus tho (I'm a sucker for descending minor melodies :P)

My Baby 6/10: I have a few notes. One: whoevers fucking idea it was to put Momney RIGHT after Fetishney deserves a fucking Troll of the Millennium Award. Another huge issue of mine with Circus is the wildly inconsistent tracklist, which makes no fucking sense at all (I mean, we get two no holds barred smashas and then a cheap ballad for track 3? Dafuq??) however the vocals are nice and it was nice to actually hear her sing without all the shitty vocal production behind the rest of the album.

Radar I have no words/10: B&A really?

Phonography 7/10: the instrumental is life. The vocal production, not so much.

Rock Me In 7/10: I actually quite like it! The verses are so hokey in a way only pop rock can be, but the chorus is solid and the bridge makes me cum uncontrollably.

Rock Boy 5/10: reductive tbh

Amnesia 6/10: I was totally onboard until that generic af chorus hit my eardrums like a tidal wave of basic

Quicksand 5/10: never holds my interest long enough tbh
