Let me spill some truth tea.

There aren't enough documentaries. Not enough TV specials centered on her and her peak. Britney's name doesn't appear high in several countdowns. Media outlets don't praise her as much. Her iconic songs don't appear on movie soundtracks when there are good opportunities for it.

And no, a lot of "praise" is not always genuine... it also relies heavily on the team's media power and connections in the industry. Whereas you see figures like Beyonce and Taylor Swift (as a Taylor fan, I can tell you her new album is dreadful) being overrated left and right.

Is Vegas the best they can do? :zoomzoom: A local Britney day?

It's unforgivable a lot of the new generation is unaware of her impact. When you look at the receipts, you'd appreciate how she very much comes from a golden age of pop.

Performed with MJ

VMA 2000

And yet, these performances are almost forgotten (except for the yearly VMA recap perhaps). Her catalog sales aren't doing as much as what you'd expect from someone who's sold as much as she has. It all reeks of poor management of her legacy. Whatever condition Britney is in right now as a performer or musician, she has done MORE THAN ENOUGH in her peak to be regarded as a legend. But, let's be real, majority of the public don't believe so.

I cannot with them after the whole Britney Jean fiasco. :moorangu: If this kind of management continues, she will be forgotten. These new kids won't know what a legend she was. :crying3:

Why is being a Britney fan so hard? :crying1: No more world tours, lack of music, no live performances and shitty producers. :gloria: ugh

but why do you care so much about whether or not britney is perceived as a legend? you know what she's done and accomplished, so do all these new basic as fuck acts that always credit britney as their inspiration. does it matter if the "general public" doesn't? she's never be respected by them, and i think she's come to learn that she never will. i don't understand why fans still expect that to happen, it's not going to. enjoy britney for what she's done, and still continues to do and stop worrying so much about a "legacy" that isn't even yours

I hope they get it together. To be honest, it isn't that hard because we've had an incredible peak that no one can take from us. :) She has receipts that put legends to shame.

I haven't experienced a proper era yet since I'm a fan since late 2011. The only "era" I have attended so far is Britney Jean :4music: WB was awesome, POM too, her visual change too and she's happier but I didn't feel it as it was meant to be. The music was awful, not THAT much but still, the direction was changed which ruined everything. I feel like, BJ was an era for Britney mentally, she pleased herself, not the fans.

Because I'm a fan? :moorangu: I want to see her get success. Would we rather she end up like Janet Jackson, who has had enormous impact on the industry, but relatively forgotten now?

No, we want her to be remembered like MJ, Madonna, Celine.

she still is incredibly successful though, britney spears will never be forgotten. when fans of pop music, not just britney, speak of her they put her in the same category of mj and madonna

Aw sweetie

Thank God for technology, it is possible to kinda experience a Britney era by looking at old YouTube videos (rare ones are out there and a lot of fans don't even know about it).

Possibly at the moment, but I've seen her starpower diminish more and more throughout the eras. If the decline continues, I can see her becoming a mere "icon of the 00s". :yaknow:

that's your opinion though, others see her shinning and continuing to get better and better. she continues to gain fans and support through each era. britney doesn't wanna be the top girl despite what some of her fans want

I mean, the way the Vanguard Award was handled omfg. :orangu:

britney loved it, and it was for her

Well, first, she should start singing live and recording music with good quality. At least, that would be a good step up. Then maybe people would take her in consideration, in a good way. Cause right now, she's considered as a joke, a hasbeen who can't dance and sing anymore, so yeah.. that's isn't very great to "preserve her legacy" either. Stop blaming her team, it's Britney's fault too. It's HER career, if she wanted something better and bigger she would say it, she has a mouth and can talk with her team, ya know. Her team is just doing their best with what they have, which is a Britney who's not really interested by her career anymore.

I thought they could've done a better video tribute and maybe people singing her songs. I couldn't deal with the little kids in her outfits. I thought what Gaga said was sweet and honest (made Britney tear up). I wish this kind of recognition would continually honestly Brit IF YOURE REading this HIRE ME AND I will be your manager, makeup artist, hair stylist, clothing stylist, choreographer and I swear u will be the baddest bitch in the game lmfao

(Sorry I keep having after thoughts) but I think we need to remember that there might be good reason for her well being why she is sheltered and protected. We all know (though we don't know specifics) her stiffness/robotic-ness is a side effect from some medication she's on. I think she would be able to dance much better and probably be more outgoing had she not been prescribed these meds but mentally would she be in a better place? I'm not so sure. From what I've noticed in her POM performances she tried with the moves, and knows them well but she has a difficult time executing them because I don't think she can do it full out physically.

Yes. Britney's legacy is being tarnished over and over again. Through sales, music quality, performances, etc, she has been on the decline and there is no trying to deny it. Obviously, as a diehard fan we want her to maintain her legacy and be appreciated. Anyone who says they don't care about Britney being rightfully praised is either lying or living in a state of delusion.

Tired of these passive aggressive comments about how we shouldn't ever question ANYTHING. Britney gives no fucks and honestly it is sad. Really sad to be a legend and not give a shit. Her humbleness has transformed into not caring. Her team has made so many bad decisions. Britney deserves SO much better. She's Britney frigging Spears, for fuck's sake. :icanttt:

I'm really afraid this might happen one day. She and her team really have to do something about it.

I completely agree. There's a huge spread of Taylor in the new issue of TIME, where they recount the highest debuting albums in their first week and how many albums artists sold in the US before the age of 25. Britney isn't even mentioned in any of the graphics. I fully intend on writing to them for this, but honestly, Britney's legacy is being so mishandled it bothers me immensely. Half a generation later and young kids still only know Breakdown Britney instead of record-holding ceiling-shattering Britney. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Yes. Yes. Yes :tea:

I think the fans care more about her career right now than her and/or team B. And i do agree with someone that said that her team is not the only one to blame, i think they are working how they can with want she is willing to do. Sometimes with this kind of tread people get offended if we speak our mind but i do think there are 2 different type of fans: the ones that like absolutly everything she does even if is not good enough and the ones that want her to be a better version of herself each day.

I wish she could be a legend forever, be like MJ that won 8 grammys in one night, i want her to perform at the superbowl by herself, i want her to break her own OIDIA record..and above all of those, i want her to gain the respect of people again..not only general people but her peers in the music industry, she is not respected anymore. People make fun of her in award shows for lipsyncing and its like she is blind or deaf and she doesnt even makes ONE live performance. Its so frustrating as a fan sometimes  :boring:

I don't even think Britney was pleased with BJ. I read somewhere, idk the article was somewhere on this site, that she wanted Blackout 2.0 and then they got Will.I.Am involved so that idea was scrapped, she then both of them started working on a personal album which her label didn't want so they put a stop to that (idfk why tho) and then she decided she wasn't going to promote an album like that because that's not what she wanted so Will.I.Am went and made it basic and safe and autotuney and you could even tell in the interviews Britney wasn't happy with the album. We gotta remember if the label doesn't want something, she can't released it (look what happened to Original Doll). I think Britney had crap for control over her albums on her last contract and hopefully she'll have some more next era. When she's happy with her product, she'll want to promote it.

I  think something similar happened with FF too. Circus you could even tell she was more enthusiastic about the album and the songs when she was performing. I just think BJ was not what Britney wanted at all and that's why this era was a mess. I mean, she said she wanted Alien as a single. What happened to that? You know what I mean?
