had been the hit it was if it wasn't for the music video? What if the video was different (not necessarily the animated one) ??

I don't know. It's kind of hard to imagine a different video for BOMT because Britney's idea was genius. But I think as long as it wasn't animated or silly, the song still would have done well since it's so catchy. :yaknow:

The song still would have been a hit.  Britney's song has catchy lyrics and an infectious tune. Plus Britney's a cute girl singing in the same style as BSB. I do fully believe that the video was important for Britney-at least the Britney brand. It made her very memorable.

It would have been a hit, but maybe to a lessor extent. The song itself was controversial for the line "hit me baby one more time" and the fact that a 16-year-old girl was singing it, but the video took it to another level and made the song what it is today.

Yes, i think. Back in the time there wasn't internet like today, and not everyone was on tv either watching music videos (and not everyone had MTV). So the school outfit helped of course, but the song itself would have been a hit without it anyway imo. A song can't be a hit just because of a music video if it's not at least catchy in the first place.

A hit, yeah. But it wouldn't be remembered as the iconic masterpiece that is nowadays.
The "school lolita" role in the video helped a lot.
When people thinks in BOMT they automatically think in Britney as school girl, so...
Thanks God she didn't go for the animation shit.

With an animated video the public wouldn't met to miss American Dream dancing

they had to see that angelical girl

I don't think it would have been such a big hit without the video, but a hit still cuz the song is really good!

GODNEY wouldve been a one hit wonder, plus the song wouldnt go #1 :tbh:

That's what I was thinking as well

That's how Slave got famous as well, cuz of the VMA performance and the video, I remember people weren't a big fan of the song but with those 2 things everyone remembered it
