..Baby One More Time debuted in September 1998 right? and Genie In A Bottle debuted in June 1999.

 

What if Genie In A Bottle was released in December 1997 to March 1998. Would Britney still be succesful? And What if Christina's first solo Album released in the Summer of 1998 6 months before Britney's BOMT. 

 

I think Britney's album sales would be lower. And we would get I'm A Slave 4 U wayyy later like late 2002... we wouldn't get In The Zone till 2004-5.. Her breakdown migh'tve not have happened because I believe Xtina would be more successful.. Xtina's advantage was single success... So I think Genie could've blocked BOMT from even hitting #1 Unless Larry waited till summer 1999 for Baby One More Time. But by that time Christina would've already been the QUEEN OF POP!

 

Christina would have Britney's success and Britney would have Xtinas

Genie in a Bottle was whiny, the music video was boring, and Christina's image was way too safe. Had she debuted sooner, she would have faded into obscurity or would have been sentenced to Disney soundtracks.

Ill go as far as to say that she owes all of her sucess to Britney. It took BOMT a couple months to build momentum and shoot Britney to the top and with all success comes judgement. The only reason people kept praising Xtines vocals was beacuse they were comparing them to Britneys. WIth no one to compare to, Crustina would have been just meh. Personally, i would rather listen to Britney record BTI over and over, than to listen to anything from Xtina.

BOMT was number # 1 in each country in which it was released and it has nothing to do with if existed or not christina also the video is iconic and has that something that makes shocking and memorable for pop culture, BOMT is a Video of worship and genie in a bottle not and in that time britney still would have been the queen because britney was the prototype of '' pop star '' that was seeking people and industry generally singers with catchy songs but with elaborate choreographies because the main reference of ultimate pop star was MJ and christina is vocalist remember that at that time in sales ruled the groups vocals and choreographies.

Britney makes good music. Irrelevantina, despite her voice, makes shit music. That's the difference. She also has shit videos and no stage presence. She WAS popular back then (and even got more #1s than Godney early on) but then the GP realized she was a vile slut. Bad attitude, yo-yoing weight / horrible clown makeup, shit albums, shit music, etc. When she came out makes no difference.

Hmmm.. I thought about this before. Honestly, I still thin britney would have been more successful. Baby one more time is a much better single because it has a very catchy beginning and sexy lyrics that clashed with Britney's innocent face and image at the time.. not to mention the school girl outfit. I love christina but to be honest, Genie in a bottle is a very good song, but that video sucked! It's.just.so.damn.boring! It was a very bland video. Christina is not known for her videos (imho) pre stripped era. Britney's appeal is that she KNOWS how to look at the camera and knows how to move her body. It's hard to explain this.. but look at the way she moves her body in overprotected remix in that dress. and how she looks at the camera.

I still think Britney would have been more successful and more popular because well.. you gotta remember that before Britney, there was the spice girls who were known more for their performances and eye catching outfits than voices so britney sorta continued that pop trend. Christina is unique.. always has been. I think that maybe xtina would have had a much easier time esablishing her true identity as a vocalist if she came out before britney. I also think Christina wouldn't have been marketed as a "pop" artist if she came out before christina. And technically, christina did have a video out before britney, the VERY forgettable video "My reflection".  The reason it didn't do so well is because she has THE WORST team any artist could have. Who the hell releases a first single that's a soundtrack? I think the best thing that has happened to chrstina is that she became known WHEN britney released Baby one more time because despite the god awful comparison,  pop was the THING in the mid and late 90's and this is what helped christina.

 

Aside from her annoying badmouthing other celebs, I think the main reason why christina is less successful than britney is because:

Christina takes waaay too long to release an album.

 

She puts too much makeup (most of the time)

 

Most of her outfits are outrageous and she looks like she's trying too hard to be sexy. (I like the dirty video because it showed different sides to being "dirty" as for her look that era, it was gross. Those thin eyebrows, that awful pretentious ghetto phase, ugh.)

 

She SCREAMS a lot in her songs which really pisses people off. (We know your voice is great but jesus!)

And one last thing, Christina comes off as a bit opinionated in interviews. I remember watching "All eyes on Cristina Aguilera" and she says something like: "Don't tell me how to be sexy, I know what works for me."  Uhm.. she clearly doesn't.. considering how she comes off as trashy instead of being sexy. And honestly, that girl CAN look sexy if she wants to. She has a lot of sexy looks without tons of makeup.

I love Christina but I don't think her problem is Britney. I think her problem is mainly herself. She needs to change some stuff about herself. Also, she REALLY needs to leave her shit of a team.
