I hear some fans say this, but I really don't get it :zoomzoom:

Some of you call FF generic and BJ, but bomt and oida album were so generic for it's time :gloria: I mean BOMT and OIDIA practically sound like the same song :orangu: Britney album had it's gems but still blackout, circus, and FF >>>>

Idk some of you act like all albums before Blackout were flawless, when her first 2 albums had like 0 diversity and clearly didn't involve her as an artist

I love Circus and Femme fatale! I wouldn't say that her music has gotten worse :)

Although BJ is not my favorite :pieceofwhat: But it's mostly the producing or whatever it's called, not the songs

totally agree :cutelaugh:

The music only got "worse" because Blackout is such a masterpiece and will never be topped, so literally everything she does now will be "worse". But really, both Circus and BJ have some brilliant songs that suffer from weak production which feels rushed and unfinished. FF is pretty flawless overall, it's cohesive and very well produced. Pretty much any of the songs could have been singles. It's hard to fault it.

And I don't see BOMT as generic at all. I can't think of any artist from around that time that has a similar album. Oops was the generic recycled Backstreet Boys album...

britney has never been "generic" you guys need to get your shit together.

and that's exactly how she stayed relevant and on the very top for so many years. she was the trendsetter. she never followed.

well I don't think BOMT was horribly "generic" but it definitely wasn't a trendsetter bubblegum pop was a thing around then, and the UK started right?

What made Britney stand out was her performances, dancing, innocence, and ofc catchy tunes around then

ITZ thru FF are pretty much the only the only albums I listen to from Britney (plus like 4 or 5 songs from "Britney" and all of her unreleased). I only dislike one album out of the 3 following Blackout. :yaknow:

But Blackout is my holy Godney bible, I must confess. :sorrynotsorry:

0 diversity???? :uhwtf: How can you say that from an album that has songs like Stronger, Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know, Satisfaction, One Kiss From You, Dear DIary, Were Are You Now, What U See, I mean, is a rollercoaster of sounds and lyrics and yet it was amazing because they all had a similar vibe, without making them sound the same. Blackout or Femme Fatale sound the same from beginning to end, excluding the bonus tracks. I still like them though, but they lack the original Britney essence.

You must be 15 years old or younger, but saying you don't like the first albums, it's like saying you don't like Britney at all. I mean, I don't care how involved she was on her early albums, that was the Britney Spears that they sold us back in the day, that was the sound, the songs that started it all, and if they weren't that good, they wouldn't have been that succesful, and we wouldn't even have a Blackout, or Circus or anything else.

Baby and Oops sound the same? Well, you know what? I wish we had a third song that sounded like that and I'm sure it would be a massive hit even today :lol3: Max Martin is the god of pop, and I wish Britney never stayed away from him. Now he's giving his hits to all those basic artists like Katy, Taylor or Ariana and stuff like that.

Her first albums weren't generic for their time. She was a trendsetter back in the day thanks to those albums, and even though many artists tried to imitate her, her music was always better than Christina's, Jessica Simpson, Mandy Moore, JLo, etc. So yeah, I won't say her newer music sucks, I mean, Circus had pretty good stuff, and FF, even though was too much EDM, the Max Martin tracks saved the album. Britney Jean wasn't that bad either. But I think her first albums will always be the best, especially OIDIA and Britney :urwrong:

It's true, though. I LOVE Britney. I love Femme Fatale, I like Circus... but her work has taken a huge dive post-Blackout.

BOMT was innovative at the time because no young female was making waves in pop - Britney ushered in a whole new era of bubblegum pop artists. Oops expanded on that, and keep in mind that Britney was only around 18 years old at this time. Oops is full of perfectly-crafted and impecablly produced pop music with great vocals. "Britney" was also really boundary pushing for the time, mixing urban sounds with pop which no other white female pop stars were doing at the time, and it became a trend. In The Zone is, in my opinion, her best overall album. It's amazing. Experimental, fresh, great vocals, iconic songs. Blackout was a HUGE moment in pop, it's an album with no bad songs, fantastic productive, and it set trends in music that lasted for years.

Britney and her team really played it safe with Circus. There are GREAT songs on the album (Circus, Unusual You, If U Seek Amy) but it's all kind of by-the-numbers pop and not nearly as great as what she had been working up to with ITZ and Blackout (not to mention the scrapped Original Doll stuff.) FF is a solid pop album but not really boundary-pushing aside from the dub-step in HIAM. There's a lot of great beats and some truly awesome songs but again, it's not as good as it could have been. Britney's vocals are basically non-existent on the album, lost to autotune and vocal effects. BJ is the only truly bad album in her discography, as far as I'm concerned. The ballads are good and WB is a bop, but the production is awful, the song choices are strange, the beats are dated... it's a fucking mess, tbh. She's been following trends post-Blackout rather than setting them, which is a shame because she never used to.

I agree that Oops and BOMT are great albums. I played them nonstop years ago. My taste in music has evolved heavily since then, so they aren't my go-to albums. But they are great, nonetheless.

no saying I don't like her later albums is like saying I don't like Britney at all because she actually contributed to them :frenchy:

but yea I'm over-exaggerating on the 0 diversity thing, but bomt is just boring to me

she started the dubstep trend though

but yea I guess bomt was a trendsetter even though she wasn't the first to do the genre, she was the youngest female in the u.s?

I think in some years time FF will probably get more attention. I would say that her worst album is her first album only because it really didn't stand the test of time in terms of the lyrics and the beats even though it has tight production. I can only listen to BOMT, Crazy (Stop Remix), BTMYH and Beat Goes On. The BJ album is her next worst album mainly because of the production even though most of the songs have strong lyrics. I think what happened in BJ is someone at RCA and most likely Will.i.am decided to switch directions with the album last minute, Britney wasn't feeling it and we got what we got because it got rushed. Britney and her managers need to stand up better to what they know is right for her, mainly let Britney be the final word on what happens with the songs like she was on ITZ and BO and she'll be back on track. Even with all that drama of the last era, she still has one of the most solid catalogs of any current pop star out there though.

Who says that??? Her performances may have gotten worse but her music has IMPROVED!!! BIG TIME!!!

Her albums have no fillers and almost all of the songs are potential singles!!!

Well actually her performances have improved. Especially from FFT to POM.

Yeah I agree!!! I meant, her performances compared to primeney...

I don't agree with the separation of discography before and after blackout!!!

It should be before and after her breakdown because Britney changed as an artist significantly...
