You can barely hear the guitar, and it sounds broken or he plays like an amateur.

Literally ANYONE could cover the song and sound like that, I'm not even hating but it's true.

Not to be mean, but you can find a lot of Ed Sheeran type singers at a high school talent show.

Not really. He's quite amazing live and writes all of his own music (plus music for other artists).. he plays guitar and uses loop-pedals to simultaneously play the other instruments. He's only 24 and has an insane amount of talent. There's no need to trash someone because his fans like his cover of a Godney song better than the original. It's just like us saying Britney's Tom's Diner is better and then Susanne Vega fans and listeners from the 80s would call us insane. Sheeran has spoke in defends of the Holy miss Godney Joan many times and calls himself a fan.

From my perspective, his overall sound is nothing special. Talented as he may be, I am personally not a huge fan and have nothing against him.

Of course, you don't need to be a fan. Everyone's taste is different. I just think it's funny that any Britney fan would put down his musical style as "something you can find anywhere" when he actually sang the song with emotion and power.. Britney hasn't sang it live in 15 years

His voice is quite incredible

 

 

The song gets covered like that by every guitar singer who covers it, it's not like there's anything distinctly Ed Sheeran about it.

What did you want him to do, sis, fly on a magic carpet? He was just doing it for fun in a studio. He plays it a lot at live shows.. it's just an acoustic version. It's not meant to be better than Britney's version of it. But he's playing the music and singing live and sounds great so I'll take it

I actually didn't watch the video. Perhaps I should have. I was basing my opinion off of the songs he has released, of which do not stand out to me. My comment about him sounding like a talent show contestant was not in comparison to Britney. It was a general comment, not specific to his cover or how well he sang it.

And I rarely ever compare Britney as a singer to other entertainers. Theoretically, she'd come out as the worse singer every time. Similar to what you said, we have not heard her sing live in years.

Ed is the best most purest form of talent this generation has ever seen as far as top 40 artists go. He loves our girl enough to cover her and he's even gone as far as saying he likes to listen to her while he cooks   ! Nothin will ever be as good as our flawless queens vocals but lets not lose our marbles here and say there isn't nothing special about him!
