The Mannequin rehearsal video went everywhere right before the VMAs 2008 and everyone was convinced she was going to perform that. Insiders kept saying the song was called Underground and eventually we got an instrumental.

 

I remember there were like, 2 instrumental demos for Kill The Lights that sounded remotely close to what the final product sounded like, but didn't have vocals. So I assumed they were just remakes.

They probably already heard the rumor about gaga writing Quicksand for Circus. But IDK. I was not that there pre Circus era, even tho I have been a fan since Blackout :flopfan:

I always believed it was meant to be part of TCSBS but was scrapped.

That or it was just a warm-up routine, which is unusual, but does happen.

Some people said Mannequin was originally intended as the lead single and then when an album actually came together and got more commercialized, Womanizer was recorded and took over as the lead. We'll never really know tho. Like the footage of Toxic during IABJ that's 100x more complex and energetic than the stage version during POM. "Doesn't make any sense, does it?"
