Billboard has compiled a list of the top 40 highest-paid musicians of 2014, Despite the fact Britney Spears didn't release any new material (song or album) in the 2014 year she was still able to make the top 20. 

Billboard ranks the highest-paid musicians of the past year.
 

The measure of artistic success isn't easy to pin down -- and its not easy to quantify, either. Ten of Billboard's top reporters drilled down on artists' primary music-based revenue streams to determine who, from newcomers to legends, brought home the most bacon in 2014.

* Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Britney Spears and Eminem were the only acts from their generation to make the top 20, P!nk was the only other act from that generation to make the list at #36.

* Several acts that released new albums & eras and were very active during 2014 failed to make the list.

Britney Spears is still a solid name in music industry, take into consideration 2013 / 2014 are considered to be her "worst" years in music industry and yet she still stands out among the top earners in music. Her as an artist still worths and makes millions of dollars every year based only on music.
