ValetGirls Posted May 3, 2015 #27 Report Posted May 3, 2015 If I didn't have actually-educated friends that taught me about the various waves of feminism (and their general disdain for the current iteration), I too would totally believe that feminism is a bunch of incoherent Tumblratti that have no idea how to effectively get their message out, which is my only main gripe about modern feminism (and really, most social movements nowadays). And Pretty Girls def has feminist undertones, but Brit's always been more about raising one's individual standards and not settling for anything less as opposed to being betrothed to any one ideology, which is why I prefer her music over, say, that one summer where we were all told to raise ur glass if U R a firework that was born that way. As a straight guy (and an economist) fly-on-the-walling, sometimes I wonder if gays realize how often their vulnerabilites are preyed upon & taken advantage of by ulterior commercial interests that really don't give a rat's ass about what they go through. Same with other at-risk minorities and oppressed social groups. just my 2 cents no matter your opinions on Uni, y'all still flawless 1

Miss Dalloway Posted May 3, 2015 #31 Report Posted May 3, 2015 I like to think that the "All around the world pretty girls" line means that every girl is beautiful in her own way, which of course includes valuing yourself for who you are as a whole and not just for your looks. For me the point of the song is to make people feel confident when they sing along to it and just have fun, because like you said is just a feel-good song, you don't need to pay much attention to the lyrics!

It was started by females and is for females so we can be seen as equal. So....yeah....

Feminism is basically about gender equality and I feel like most people who don't support it just don't fully understand what it means. Feminism can't be sexist because sexism discriminates one of the genders in order to make the other more valuable, while feminism, as I said before, is all about equality. You should try to read more about it because I'm sure you'd discover a lot of things you don't know! feminism was intentionally about equality but that's not what it is now, feminism has destroyed a lot of the culture and society today (per research, not my mouth). equality would technically be 'humanism'

I'm not a supporter of it, however I do respect women. Feminists make it out like people who don't support them are sexist and support things like unequal pay, cat calling, and such... which is totally NOT true. Preach brotha!
