I'm 18 years old, male, 148 pounds, 5'11 and my current workout a day is 30 minutes on a treadmill and then i go swimming.

I've been reading a lot about the treadmill calories burnt calculator is pretty inaccurate, even though the treadmills at my gym make me enter my age and weight etc. I use an incline of 10, and at a speed of 6 (can't remember the unit its in, but its basically a strong power walk). Even half hour it usually tells me i've burnt about 600 calories, and although i sweat and get my heart rate into the fat burning zone i'm just wondering if i actually am burning these... i also hold onto the handle bars but these have a heart rate monitor on them and the treadmill tells you to keep your hand on them, so i'm thinking that maybe the calculator automatically takes this into account and doesn't automatically think you've burnt the amount of calories you would when not holding?

I just don't think 600 cals every half hour seems very accurate.. a little too easy? i don't know. But on the plus side i am loosing weight so yey. How many cals would you guys say I'm loosing?

When you walk a regular mile, the average calories burned is usually equal to about 100 calories.

Speed makes the calories burnt in a mile go up slightly, but not by much (as long as you have your heart rate up to at least fat burning mode), this does vary from person to person, mind you.

Incline does a lot to help you burn more calories. If you are on a ten incline and you power walk an entire mile, that should at least bring the calories burned from 100 to about 150-175 calories burned every mile. I run track so, I learned bits and pieces from this for when trying to cut back some weight before the season begins.

I would suggest you kinda forget about calories and just listen to your body. Changing up your workout every two weeks will produce the most change. Hope that I helped. I'm kinda obsessed with fitness/nutrition. Lol.

i know i sound like a freak saying this, but through clubbing etc and binge eating I've gained about a stone in 2 years and I'm stomach is pretty flabby. all the gained weight goes straight to my stomach for some reason and I'm trying to loose that. I'm not trying to get underweight tho don't mean it to sound like that haha

It is! Especially when you notice the changes in your body.

Do you lift weights? I'd suggest you try and do 3-4 sessions of weight lifting a week. Even if it's only using body weight. That + 3-4 sessions of cardio a week is the best combo for getting porn star ready. :D

Anyway I finally read the OP (:gloria:) There's NO WAY you're losing 600 cal in half an hour. I'd say you losing 150-200 tops

I understand just don't want you getting too skinny or underweight like you said. It's great to exercise, eat healthy, etc. Just don't lose too much weight.

If he loses it by working out he'll never be too skinny tbh He'll lose fat but gain muscle. Keep working out tbh !

Don't focus on losing weight then, focus on toning. And sometimes you can gain weight, but look better... muscle weighs more than fat. Scales are the worst - so just work out and use a mirror for feedback, it's honestly the best way to know if you're doing something right. For awhile, I was working out, looking more toned, but I was gaining lbs. It actually made me undermine the progress I was making, so don't let that happen to you.

Good luck, bb!

Haha. I would hire a trainer for about a month and you will get it quick! I'd invite you to go with me to lift, but I doubt you are in Georgia. Lol.

Not true. Running isn't great for building muscle. It's mostly cardio. If he runs too much and/or eats too little, he could very well become underweight. Also, it's hard to build muscle unless you have a caloric surplus with the right macros like protein, carbs, etc.

I thought he was "properly working out" like doing sit ups and lifting. If he's just running then yes you're right :xf1:
