the truth, y'all. Honestly, so much of the inspiration behind TVR from Janet haself is present in our humble queen. Britney has always been a super-guarded person, and I think it's time for her to break that bland personality-less facade that's been in her music ever since the Circus era. She has the most interesting story arc in all of the music industry, and the most we've seen her grapple with it lyrically is "naralone naralone naralone."

I really want Britney to produce a mature piece of work. Unfortunately, I don't have my hopes up that B9 will be that, esp after PG (unless her team recalibrates after the relative floppage of PG and steers towards the promising artistry of Tom's Diner). But there still might be hope :spearitualney:

I'd love for B9 to have sounds like this :)

A LOT of these newer indie electronic & R&B sounds find their origins in Janet's masterpiece! Britney could draw from that and be a new inspiration to those who were originally inspired by Blackout and are looking to expand from there.

Brit can still be sexy and catchy while still having something to say and creating a mature sound that fits both her age and where she is in her career. If she sticks to her rather immature pop safe zones, she's only going to tarnish her own legacy. Leave those bubblegum bops to the up n' comers, and show the industry why they feared and respected you in the first place :likethat:

Yes! She needs a more artistic and mature sound that gets her some credits from the GP. I don't want her to give up on her signature bubblegum style, but she can pick it up later, she needs to get some musical credibility before  :yaknow:

she desperately needs some music cred. The problem with Britney Spears as a concept is that she is both the most successful female artist of the 21st Century, and yet completely unbelievable as the holder of that title. Homegurl needs to back up her crown with some substance

and tbqh, I don't think bubblegum style is her "signature style", and I dismiss artists that have one. Imagine if the Beatles were pigeonholed to making tween bops for their entire careers instead of branching out into psychedelic experimental music, because that's was their "signature style?" The greatest musicians, whether its Bowie or Janet or Madonna, have stayed in the game because they gave up what the GP considered their "signature style." On the flip, people like Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, & Whitney Houston (and if she keeps it up, Katy Perry) spent their entire careers trying to recapture the magic of their golden moments, their signature sound, only to watch their relevance (and well-being) fade away.

Not saying I'm totally against uptempo stuff; maturity doesn't mean everything slows down in beats per minute lol however, relegating one of the most interesting voices in the industry to the teeny-bopper sound is kinda tragic to me :/

Madge used to be such a leader, plucking obscure producers with a vision and having them create masterpieces for her even as her career seemed to be waning, like RoL, Music, and Confessions. Since Hard Candy, tho, she's been yet another pop pseudonym for the industry to collect royalties from. poordat :xtina1:

and yeah I don't have high hopes for B9 either :crying1: I'm just hoping it's not as bad as BJ :crying5:

No yeah, I understand what you're saying and I agree, I'm just saying that even if she decides to do more experimental and interesting stuff I don't want her to stop making poppy music, because I enjoy that too, you know? For example, she could have an album with maybe 6 or 7 songs like Toxic, And Then We Kiss and Strangest Love, choosing the first couple of singles from this bunch to attract the public's attention, and then some songs like I Wanna Go and Till The World Ends. I just think that once you prove what you can do you can allow yourself to swing between the silly mainstream songs and the more serious themes, if that makes sense :)

for sure! :) i do think you can kill two birds with one stone tho, and create an upbeat masterpiece a la Ray of Light (the single) or Rhythm Nation. She just needs to have something to say, and I know that deep down, beyond the velvet rope, she does :yestbh:

:yas: She really does.  Songs like "Velvet Rope," "You," "My Need," "Free Xone," "Empty," and "Special" I can hear Britney on.  The Velvet Rope is everything Britney Jean should/could have been.

It's crazy, isn't it? :xf7: and she can totally do those kinds of things! Scary how prescient Empty turned out to be btw :umomg:

and I completely agree with your last point. There's still time :crying5:

Yep! I was thinking about that with "Empty," the track itself is so beautiful, lyrically it is very fitting with the times.  Janet's "Every Time" is so Britney as well.

I wonder if Britney knows about The Velvet Rope? (Like Blackout there's an undercurrent of sadness thruout but with lyrics that are much more brazen.)  I ask this because she's referenced RN1814, janet., a lot and there's pictures of her owning Damita Jo & 20YO.  She's done her version of Control for the TRL set with Britney but nothing about TVR.  Her team is quick to point out how every album she's done post '07 is her ROL but, nah, give me Britney's All For You at least.

I hope she goes for the artsy fartsy album she wants and doesn't let the label choose how her sound will be. Britney's got a brilliant mind when it comes to her business and deserves a lot more trust than she's given

I know! Maybe they're saving that influence for later... :xtina1:

She'd have to go Indie to pull that off. But the question is - does she really want to? :icanttt:

I think she wants to make music she wants to make, I don't think she wants to have to fight to make it

OPyaaas.gif for Velvet Rope!!!! TIZ matureney with a bop of FFney & Urban Flares of Blackoutney is NEEDED...All this polished pop bullshit has to take a break we've had it for a while now (even though FF was a pop masterpiece) we still were engulfed in Safe music...bring that edge that experimental and SEXY/GROWN vibe you were giving us on ITZ

MFTE! Britney's whole rep was built on the fact that she doesn't make safe moves for her music. Even in FF she was leading the pack on how to make a modern dance record and how to incorporate dubstep into your work. The past few years have been mind-numbingly safe, and those boring moves have an equally boring reaction from the GP. Give us back Provocateurney!

LOVE TVR :soexcited2: ...honestly more of a Janet fan than Madonna....I would love it. imo TVR > ROL

Yes!! :slay: and I think I would agree with you! ROL is great but TVR is honestly a perfect record, which is something I can't say for ROL

Actually we have a lot of different Britney's signature music style. Urbanney (ITZ) Pureoopney (BOMT OIDIA Britney) Electrodanceney (Blackout FF)

The thing is I feel like she's still in search of finding new style of music considering she's been making some different type of music.

I feel like b9 would sound unexpected considering to her music she has made.
