Winding down after the show, the singer mused on the large number of powerful women in the music world in 2015. "I think people are able to see female artists for what they are more now than say five years ago," she says. " If you think back to like, 2004, where it was very much like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton. . . that whole size-zero craze, I remember that was a time where it felt really terrible to be a young woman, and you didn't really have many positive role models. Whereas now you have such a variety of women. It's just important there isn't one type of woman who's celebrated."

Don't take it as something negative, she's a big Britney fan.

We all know what she meant with that...

:4music: Britney has always been a very positive role model, especially body wise because she's NEVER been a size zero. She's always had a healthy and achievable body

She doesn't mean that. The size zero wasn't for B.

She's talking about how the media was portraying pop icons like Britney as the "image of perfection" and how every women should look like.

Britney was never a size zero. 2nd what's wrong with being a size zero? She might not have meant it that way but some people act so bitter towards us skinny girls. :selenerz: Nowadays it's the "big booty" craze, there's always a trend it never ends.

the "image of perfection" still exists tho, now it's all about a small waist and big butt and bust. Or ofc the model like figure size 0-2

I understand what you mean, but what I think Marina is trying to say  is that during her earlier years Britney had that kind of "perfect, cute and quirky blonde girl" image, which is not a bad thing, but the problem comes when the society presented it as the only acceptable type of women. That's different now because the idea of "being perfect on your own way" is way more popular than before. I don't think Marina's comment was toward Britney or Paris, it was more of a criticism towards the media and the society. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say   :stahp:

There's nothing wrong with being skinny in a healthy way.

The problem is when fashion/entertainment industry glorifies anorexic models/celebs and make it look like something normal so young girls want to look like them and put their lives & health in danger losing weight to achieve that, you know...

Most eating disorders are caused because of entertainment industry which is disgusting.

Yea I know what you mean, but society still has beauty standards till this day. People are still praised for beauty and that's always gonna happen. Nothing has changed, the only difference is social media, so now more people are able to share their opinion. :selenerz:

So that means there shouldn't be commercials selling alcohol as well? Because that would be promoting alcoholics right? It's not a skinny girls fault for being skinny, if people look up to her and starve themselves because of the media then it is out of the media's hands at that point. Americans act like it's so wrong to glorify skinny women, it's not, it's simple, it's science, work off more than what you eat and eat healthy.

What anorexic models/celebs?? Ones that people think are anorexic because they're jealous? People shouldn't assume someone is anorexic just because they're skinny, anorexia is a disease not a body type. I'm not anorexic just because I'm skinny.

Yeah, of course that's something that won't completely disappear, but I truly think that currently "perfection" is seen as a more open concept than before. For example, see the support Caitlyn Jenner and Laverne Cox are getting now, you wouldn't have seen that ten years ago! People are opening their eyes, starting to embrace the fact that we don't need to fit the models that have been imposed during the last decades and being more bold when it comes to being themselves. This idea will keep growing with time, I have a lot of hope on the future and the way our morals develop :)

LGBT rights and respect are totally different. In all states gay marriage is legal now, when it was illegal that's literally taking away someone's freedom. Models are still fit tho, almost every female singer is fit :gloria:

I used them as an example not because of gay rights, but because of how they're a new model of woman that is being accepted by society! And yes, most celebrities are still fit, but there's more representation now than before, because Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Adele all have different body types and yet they're considered beautiful by many people! I'm sure there are many more examples of that.

I get what you guys are saying, but if she wanted to blame it on the media creating those idea of what perfection was, then she should have blamed/named the media and not Britney and Paris.

She used Britney & Paris as example because on 2004 they we're probably the most influenceable celebs at that time. They were literally everywhere.

Most young girl & women wanted to look like them because media sold them that's how women should look like to be successful in their live and with men.

She isn't blaming Brit or Paris.

It's more like a critic to the society & media/industry of how has positively evolved  their influence on women through the years.

You're mixing things that doesn't have anything to do each other...

Imagine for a moment you were a 14 yo girl and you see this women on almost every TV show, magazines & blogs:

But Beyonce was always considered beautiful and there were always artists like Taylor's body type :orangu: Yea maybe more people consider Adele beautiful, though she's still not on the same level as beyonce or taylor, but I'm pretty sure she would have done well on the charts back then.

ummm I'm a teenager... not saying my age but I'm not your age most likely. :selenerz:

those women were never ideal tho :gloria: mary kate and ashley ended up doing drugs. That hillary duff picture looks fake, her head is too big. Victoria bekahm and that other actor look like they can't help how skinny they are tbh  and that's not their fault :/

Jlo, mariah carey, Britney, kylie minogue, kim kardashian, gwen stefani were all the ideal women at that time. They were all in their prime and people loved them.

More than half of this fanbase does it and we're fans too  :pieceofwhat:

Being a fan of someone or love someone does mean you have only to say sweet things and sugarcoat everything. :tea2:
