Do you think that the Spice Girls breaking up as a 5 piece in 1998 added to Britney's massive debut the following year?

The world was still extremely thirsty for more Spice Girls and in many ways Britney was just like them. Just like the Spice Girls, Britney became an instant pop culture icon extremely early in her career. Britney also shared many of the same qualities being marketed with the girl next door image. On top of all that, the music was also very similar.

The Spice Girls ruled the world between 1996-1998. After the split Britney debuted in 1999 and seeming filled their void. Do you think that the GP's thirst for more Spice Girls added to the success of Britney's first two albums?

Sure but so did her label wanting to make her a female version of BSB and having her work with Max.

The spice girls were much more cartoon and Britney real girl but deffinately from the same performance driven presentation.

The stars fell into place to make Brit rise as a teen star. Like all the hard work and sacrafice Britney put in as well.

Absolutely.

Britney's early year marketing was kinda inspired by the Spice Girls marketing, IMHO.
In fact if you ask to most fans from the beginning they will tell you they are/were Spice fans.

In BOMT MV you can see a little of Baby Spice & Sporty Spice(The 2 most favorited Spice) inspiration.

In someway Britney filled the void after the Spice Girls split.

Perhaps. However, Britney's success did not end with her bubblegum pop beginning...She evolved and she is still making music. But I can see it as a factor that boost her start!

Had the Spice Girls stayed together and released again in 1999 I dont think Britney would had been as big as she was that year. Britney was pretty much the hotter and more talented Baby Spice.

Perhaps but it's hard to tell and be absolutely certain. This was only one factor. You can't base her success on that sole factor.

Britney at the time was considered extremely talented. She could sing, dance and act! Also she was perhaps the only major solo pop star and this also made her stand out!!

They still had another hit as a 4 piece band though. Well, I don't know about charts but it was a hit for me britney_spears___not_yet____by_pokemonsp

I think it wasn't that, I mean, maybe it helped, but I think it was more the fact that she was different. She came out during a time when the music scene was ruled by bands, Spice Girls, TLC, Backstreet Boys, N Sync, etc. The solo female artists, were more adult, like Madonna, Whitney, Mariah, Janet, so Britney was just different from all that. Different, in the sense that she was so much younger, even if the music style was very similar.

When something new appears, and it turns out to be cool, everything else suddenly becomes outdated. If before Britney all the record labels were trying to release their own boy band or girl band, and all the emerging artists wanted to be part of those bands, after Britney, suddenly everybody wanted to be solo, and the record labels started to produce their own Britneys.
