Yahoo: Tommy Hilfiger On Using Britney Spears & Usher Instead Of Models For His Ad Campaigns

Fashion and French fries may sound like an unlikely pair, but not for Yahoo Style’s editor in chief Joe Zee and Tommy Hilfiger. The two sat down for a quick bite and banter at Manhattan’s legendary Katz’s Deli on the Lower East Side to chat about the American fashion designer’s decades of success. How’d it happen? “Right time, right place, with the right clothes,†says Hilfiger.

 

The label might look preppy, but Hilfiger credits much of his success to his more musical fans; the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, David Bowie (and Iman) catapulted his career. “Preppy clothes and classics were getting boring,†Hilfiger recalls over his deli staple, a Turkey Club. “When I wanted to use Britney Spears, Usher and all these cool musicians in my advertising, people were like, ‘Why didn’t you use models?’â€

 

Above, Hilfiger dishes on that time Snoop Dogg wore his sweater onSaturday Night Live, his favorite designers as of late and the three staples men should have in their closets.

He called someone who's black a nigger and said he thought it was ok cuz all black people say it each other. He apparently missed the memo on how black people don't like it very much when non black people say but in these days and times he's not the only "confused" white person out there so I wouldn't say very racist, just aloof and ignorant of racial tensions.

Listen...call it what you want but unless you're a black person your opinion on this doesn't matter and if you are black you would understand why another black person would feel that way. I'm not being hypocritical because this is a deeper issue. It will FOREVER be wrong for a white person to call a black person a nigger. The history of white folks using that word against black people is too severe for someone like me to just up and say that since a black calls another person that word it's ok for a white person to do the same. it is wrong to call anyone an offensive word no matter what color, white to white, white to black, black to white, black to black etc.

 

if people don't want to be called a certain term, they shouldn't be calling themselves that cuz other people will say it too, there is never a privilege to insult someone just because of their skin, period.

Tommy Hilfiger is NOT racist.  He never said ANY of those racist things. It was just an old Internet rumor that was proved false years ago.
