Mariah Carey's " Me. I Am Mariah...The Elusive Chanteuse" waited six months before releasing the follow up single, which hurt the album in a way. It garnered Mariah positive reviews because the songs were well made and yet, under performed because it lost momentum...Right now, it looks like Britney is following the same pattern. But my question is in the end..will we want an album that the critics adore but doesn't chart well?

Why not both? I would love to have an album thats critically acclaimed and at the same time a chart topper

Not saying we can't have both, but with the time between Mariah's #Beautiful (released in may 2013) and her second single ( released in nov. same yr) it was too long of a wait between singles and the potential album lost steam. It was well put together but didn't chart well. Im just asking what if Britney's album went the same way

Well half the fanbase wants a hit album and thats all they care about, some want a well produced album and thats all they care about...with a few in the middle

Well that's what this thread is, to open up the possibility of what could happen. Im using Mariah's last album as example of what im noticing Britney is doing. It could end up differently but would the fanbase be ok if it just was a critically acclaimed album?

We both know this fanbase wants a hit more then good reviews. Britney has had songs that do good with critics bad with charts

Lmao sis why do u keep comparing it to Mariah ? Mariah had problems with sales way before "The Elusive Chanteuse

When Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel was released she got the lowest sales from it in her career , so shes been flopping ..

As for B9 , "Pretty Girls" was just a buzz single. Iggy even admitted to it on twitter & said shes going to release a buzz single her self w/ an MV . Thats why ppl were making fun of her on twitter for tryin to copy Britney. So Britneys first single off of B9 should come by the end of this year or January

I re read this thread and at this stage in the game, this is the question we as a whole fanbase need to ask ourselves...will we be good with quality over quantity because it can go either way now

I have faith that Britney can deliver the goods and have both quality and quantity

Im just saying what I want lol ..but yes this fanbase wants a hit and thats understandable since Britney hasnt had a hit since 2012

Im comparing it because like I said, the momentum is slowed down. If we want an album released in early 2016( meaning like Feb or Mar) then a single is gonna need to be released to keep interest. This thread was a question i had

Exactly! They want a hit so bad they can taste it...but i get the op question..what would the reaction be if britney just releases a good album..not a chart topper but a well put together album

People can say what they want, but femme fatale was great in that although the album didn't sell too well, the singles (besides criminal) were really successful, and a lot of critics were pretty positive about the album.

Ok well here goes the answer to ur question .

Shes not following Mariah's pattern , Mariah actually released her single, let it sit, & catch dust before she released her next single & her album . W/ Britney its different , "Pretty Girls" was just a buzz single and not an official single off of B9 . So Britney's 1st single is yet to be released

Well sis , I think u know that answer lol. Majority of ppl have the mentality that the best songs are the chart toppers, so if it doesnt hit that top spot a lot of ppl will call it shit.

I remember tweeting out "Justin Bieber's new song sucks" and one of his fans replied to my tweet & said "how can u not like it ? Its #1 on the official charts " that right there says it all

Well damn sis, blunt much? What ever PG girls was, a buzz single it was not. Maybe a song to refresh POM but not something to keep buzz. PG chances are will be on B9.
