plus she was a damsel in distress, an unlikely underdog

 

she has supported gay causes...often under the radar which seems more genuine

 

she is an influence to lesser "gay" stars like gaga

 

she kissed Madonna, who is another sex symbol

 

TONS of gay dancers have been employed

 

she has been seen hugging and mingling w gay fans, so it is reinforced

 

unlike katy, she doesnt exploit I kissed a girl and I like it theme, but just kissed Madonna naturally for performance spectacle

 

she rose above and cameback, which provides a story people can relate to

 

gay people like to dance...? (sorry, if thats a generalization...but I feel like there are higher proportions of gay clubs in a way)

 

Macho heterosexual, or closet homophobe types, would tend to shy away from publically stanning...so maybe that relates
