Here's The Moment Record-Label Executives Knew 15-Year-Old Britney Spears Would Be A Superstar

"Britney was trying to sing like Toni Braxton, which was way too low for her. It sounded pretty awful in places," he said. "But when her voice went up high, you could hear the girlish quality, and there was something really appealing about that."

This makes no sense to me because her voice is naturally low and the label tried to make her sing higher, which damaged her vocals?

It makes sense when you think from their point of view. Remember all they see is $$$$$$$. A pretty young teen girl singing like a mature woman is not great for marketing towards the audience that would be buying her music. Plus she was pretty inexperienced so her demos were probably all over the place.

Some of these facts are false, The record execs claimed her performance of Whitney was in fact a brilliant rendition.

Robyn was also never in the mix to be offered the BOMT track, TLC and Backstreet Boys and Five were the first to get the offer before Britney did.

No, my point is that the article is suggesting that her lower vocals were unnatural and the higher vocals were the natural ones, when in reality it's the other way round; her voice is a naturally low range.

Robyn was indeed offered BOMT, after TLC: http://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultural-comment/blank-space-what-kind-of-genius-is-max-martin

And they're interviewing one of the main execs who was in the room while she was performing. Have we ever had firsthand quotes like this before, or just rumors?
