The Criminal Single Fiasco.

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, It makes me so mad. FANS CHOSE THE DAMN SINGLE, and it was off to a really GREAT start and getting added to radio, but then fans stopped requesting & caring about the song because they were all butthurt about Inside Out, and then the video came out, and we were all slayed and things were good again.............but then Lil Monsters flagged the video, and everything just stalled.

If we had just kept requesting it, and supporting it, we could have had another Top 40...even Top 10 Hit.....maybe another single, a longer tour. Ugh. Criminal killed the Femme Fatale era (ironic), and it's all the fans' faults.

:(

As another thread already said, it was truly Britney's last good single.
Pretty Girls was cute, but forgettable. Perfume...is Perfume, and should have never been a single (good album track tho). Work Bitch was a bop, but like....idk, wasn't serious to me. Criminal was the last single that made me feel like we had a Britney single.

Sis it's obvious it was the change between Jive & RCA

Think about it ... HIAM, TTWE, IWG all sold well & did well on the charts under Jive & then Jive ended up shutting down soon after and sent their artists to RCA . Then once criminal was released the floppage began due to lack of marketing & promotion.

Jive took really well care of Britney when it came down to marketing & promotion , something that RCA lacks with their artists because they don't want to pony up the money for it

This is true. Sad part is, when the put the effort forth, it always pays off (JT, Christina's Prime, Miley), which is why I think RCA is going to give Britney the big bucks, they have seen what happened with Vegas and how much it brought it, and I guarentee they are using Vegas to fund upcoming promotions and the album. I have a feeling this will be a good era for Britney, we as fans just need to do our part!

I think you're right. Its not like britney isnt worth investing in. Apart from britney jean all her albums have done really well and that one wasnt even promoted and used to finish up her contract.

Although I voted for Inside Out I always thought that Criminal would've been the perfect single because after three radio-friendly mainstream singles the GP needed to see a more "artistic" side of her with the first ballad/midtempo she released since Everytime. It's a shame it didn't recieve the support it deserved because that flute could've become so iconic :(

I do remember hearing it a lot on kiss fm in Chicago summer nights. It was an awesome time and I would get so excited when someone passed down my block with the windows down and radio full blast and Britney was on. Wish it was like that now a days...

I think that single was meant to be exactly what it was....a single for the fans that was to be last single of an era. Period. I hardly count it as a single TBH, it has NEVER been performed live. Neither has My Prerogative but at least MP had a video interlude during Circus tour!

Why did the lil monsters flag the Criminal video? (I wasn't doing forums and stuff during the FF era- I think I had just had my 2nd baby lol)

Because they're jealous, ugly cunts :queenflopga:

Ohh I didn't know if they had a legitimate reason like flagging it for nudity or something.

They flagged it because of the shower scene if I remember correctly, and because of the assault in the store with a gun..... so they blocked it

I cant believe out of the pool of bops that could have been that were on FF...Criminal was chosen. No shade tho.... :youpoorthing:

This, tbh :smokeney:

Like I said, I really like the song, but the vocals should have been more natural for a mid-tempo - and so many other songs would have done much, much better. Inside Out, TFM, HATLM and (even though I don't like it very much) DDB. I even think Trip To Your Heart could have done well on radio, though it's sort of forgettable. Also as much as we hate him now looking back, Big Fat Bass would have been huge on radio after the first 3 singles.

Still, the video slays a bit (except for having Jason in it  :pieceofwhat:

Exactly.

Since this is technically her first release with them, they will put forth the effort to ensure it's a decent hit.

Well, it is technically her FIRST release with RCA Records, because Britney Jean was technically her Jive Contract, so they will want to ensure a decent success of an album.

I do agree, but I think it had a bigger chance then it was given, It definitely could have been a decent enough hit to get us a 5th single.

I fought for Trouble For Me or Seal It With A Kiss for the 4th single :(

and yes it does, I mean, look what happened when it got unflagged on YT (it's not longer 18+), it went from 20 million views, to 35 million, in a matter months.

This TBH, if you think about it, all Jive writers made the king, princess, prince and Queen of pop. They were hit writers and now that they all switched to RCA their music has gone downhill :mhm:

It wasn't tho , once u are switched to a different label u have to sign a contract thru their company .. Britney had 1 more album left w/ jive so RCA gave Brit a 1 album deal& when she finished it was her decision to renew the contract for a 4 album deal . At the end of the day their marketing & promotions lead were spot on before but now that they have a new team working there so they are definitely greedy when it comes down to money and don't want to put up the money for promotion
