A QUADRAPALEGIC woman claims dressing as Barbie and Britney Spears has helped her come to terms with her accident, and she now hopes to inspire other women in her position.

Jasmin Britney, 26, was hit by a car when she was nine, leaving her paralysed from below the chin.

She has refused to let her condition get her down, instead turning to her idols to keep her spirits high.

That means dressing as Barbie and the singer – with Jasmin even changing her surname to Britney in honour of the star.

She said: “I post my pictures online to inspire other people who have spinal injuries or live with debilitating conditions, and I refuse to believe I won’t walk again.

“It is, for me, a symbol that one day a breakthrough could happen and my life could change and I want others to never give up hope.

“I have been unable to move since my accident but it hasn’t stopped me living life to the full and for me that means posing as the world’s only quadriplegic Barbie and Britney lookalike.

“Both the doll and the singer are my idols and helped me through some of my darkest times now I’m dedicating my life to looking like them.â€

The model, writer and designer prides herself on spending a lot of time on her appearance, and never goes for a natural makeup look.

Jasmin also opts for glam clothes and high heels, preferably by her favourite designer Christian Louboutin, whenever she goes out.

She explained: “People may think it’s crazy that a quadriplegic wear high heels but why not, I want to look amazing.â€

As a child Jasmin was a big Spice Girls fan, and it was when she was walking to buy some Spice Girls lollipops in her hometown of Helsinki, Finland, that she was hit by a car.

The driver had been texting and Jasmin’s head struck the bumper and she flew 23 metres through the air.

She woke up in hospital 12 hours later and communicated with doctors by blinking, with an MRI scan showing she’d been paralysed because of a C1 vertebrae fracture.

She had a tube in her throat helping her breathe and the next few days saw Jasmin – born Katariina Koskiranta - visited by specialists and she was eventually told she wouldn’t walk again.

asmin vowed to prove the doctors wrong and became determined to life an exciting life no matter what.

She said: “I knew I was one day going to help others injured like me and that’s what I am doing.

“I realised... I would have to be strong... so I turned to my favourite dolls and fairy-tale for inspiration. My Barbies, Cinderella and other fairy-tale books.â€

Jasmin began seeing a physiotherapist five times a week, something she still does.
