Today we celebrate 18 years since Britney’s first ever promotional tour, ‘The L’Oreal Hair Zone Mall Tour.’

After Britney finished recording her album in Sweden, she started her first album promotional tour by visiting malls across the US. This was the same promotional techniques used by 80’s pop stars, Debbie Gibson and Tiffany. Britney was also highly compared to Tiffany around this time.

Britney performed four tracks from her debut album alongside two backing dancers. Britney made an effort to chat to new fans and meet many magazine editors to discuss her upcoming project.

Depending on which date you attended you would have seen either ‘Thinkin About You,’ ‘Born To Make You Happy’ or ‘Deep In My Heart,’ alongside the set ‘regulars,’ ‘…Baby One More Time,’ ‘Sometimes’ and ‘(You Drive Me) Crazy.’

The tour only lasted a few months, initially from June to August before Britney took a break to focus on a bigger venue supporting *NSYNC on their US tour (November 1998 – January 1999) and then returning to complete a few last dates in late January following her debut album’s release. Due to the albums major success, Britney then started her own headlining US arena tour, the ‘…Baby One More Time Tour.’

Awww - watching all these videos bringing back old memories. It's hard to believe that these sweet (live!)-performances are 18 years old!!!

I wonder if the people watching knew that they were in the presence of someone who would redefine pop music and become one of the most famous and successful artists of all time.  Quite emotional seeing where it all began, she's so adorable
