Britney shares her support for Kings, dismays Oilers fans in the process

On this date in 1987, Wayne Gretzky won his eighth consecutive Hart Trophy as the league's most valuable player. The streak would end the following year, with Mario Lemieux unseating the Great One, but Gretzky would reclaim the title in 1989 -- this time as a member of the Los Angeles Kings. 

 

Oilers fans are still pretty sensitive about the trade that sent Gretzky to California. And they get especially touchy when you suggest that Gretzky's legacy is as a King, rather than an Oiler.

 

All that in mind, did Britney Spears ever step in it on Tuesday with this... toxic... tweet.

Not cool, Britney. 

There's a lot going on here. If Gretzky is forever a King, then how come that dude is wearing an Oilers jersey, and how can you say Gretzky is forever a King when he won eight Harts with the Oilers, and you do know that's not a Kings jersey, right, and why is Britney Spears trolling Oiler fans?

 

If you listen closely, you can hear the Edmonton fan nearest you softly crying.

 

Most of Spears' responses have been from people pointing out that the guy is wearing the wrong jersey. But my guess is she doesn't care. In the words of a once-famous man: leave Britney alone.

 

Spears is on the Kings bandwagon this year. She was spotted at Game 2 with her kid, which only proved too fitting in the end. With the "Oops! I Did it Again" singer in attendance, the Rangers played with their fans' hearts and got lost in the game, once again blowing a two-goal lead and dropping the contest in overtime.

 

But while Ranger fans are shaking their fists, mumbling, "Sometimes", Britney is probably feeling pretty "Lucky". In order for her Kings to win the Cup, they need only win ... Baby One More Time.

Yeah, i doubt many of her fans care about what jersey her boyfriend is wearing. And the hockey fans, i doubt check for her every tweet or even care about what she tweets. Besides, it's not like she was lying. She was rooting for the kings. And her boyfriend was wearing his only hockey jersey. Like myself. i doubt many people have an issue
