Britney's team gave no notice of the single's release. We literally (Well, I had.) 4 hours to prepare ourselves to buy the song on iTunes.

Surprise releases are all the rage nowadays... But was it a smart move by Britney's team?

I think it had some impact and it's doing good, so it wasn't a bad idea at all, I just think they're gonna have to keep the momentum and promote hard soon, that way the radio will be more encouraged to play it!

I don't think it was a bad idea no , the track is getting very positive reviews . :)

I am not saying Britney does not care ........... But I think she is at a point to where she wants to do what feels right , sexy and good for her and the fans. I don't think she is trying to grab the general public like she did before . ;)

I think she is in a very happy place and feels very secure and in her Zone and I am here for that .

It wasn't a surprise,  it was said that it would come out at some point in july, i believe it was kinda rushed because of the leaks tho but we can't call that a surprise release imo.

I was going to say this. I think they rushed the release because of all the leaks. I don't think this was supposed to be a surprise release at all. And for that reason - it's doing pretty damn well.

Define good :xf14: I haven't heard a lot of the ppl I know talk about the song and I haven't heard it once on the radio (and I play the big radio station in my country everyday).

So... maybe in the US it was a good idea :xf7:

the idea is good in theory, but with Britney we can't have surprises, except probably just the Private Show... thing :lolol2:

their surprises are always the worst kept secrets

a song alone won't do anything these days, people need to have a visual so they can get interested to watch it at least once, even if it's just with the idea of criticizing it

Not in the UK :flop:

The last era UK cared about Britney was ITZ (Toxic and Everytime slayed hard there) so not even if she was crowned the queen of England MM was going to make an impact there

UK charts for everything (music/movies/videogames) are always fucking depressing so I don't care tbh

I think the release was fine, but you need to do something to get some attention. Even a banner on iTunes would have sufficed..

I was just a little taken back to see Britney running about on holiday when a new single has been released.... a radio interview would have been nice.. but I suppose it is her decision if she wants a chart topper or not.. the song dropping on iTunes is a reflection of how much attention the song has had from Britney and her team - a massive shame as the song is the hottest she has  done since Blackout...

Well there has not been any negative reviews which is very different for a Britney release..

I heard it on Capital FM in the UK 5 times yesterday - it plays in my office and I heard it 2ce already today..

The problem is not the song - the song is excellent - the problem is absolutely zero promotion... and the charts are reflecting this..

It wasn't a surprise as in radios all over the world (mostly the US) tweeted about the release the day before :ummlol:

It wasn't for us, the crazy fans that were checking twitter and any other social media every ten seconds to check if there were news, but I'm sure the GP didn't know Britney was releasing a new song until they heard it on the radio :aintevenmad:

It really doesnt matter if it was a surprise release or an announced release. This song has gotten ZERO promotion from Britney, even Pretty Girls had more promo. I dont know what they are thinking. Lingerie, Perfume....they all get super promotion, yet her music gets ignored. This song didnt even get an iTunes banner, they didnt even do the bare minimum. (rant over)

By this measure that makes every single by any artist a surprise release, though. I don't keep up with trends super tight so if Justin Bieber dropped a new song right now, it would be new to me, even if all his fans "knew." I define a surprise release as what Beyonce did with her self-titled album: bitch was shooting videos and everything, TMZ was there for one of them, and no one knew until the album dropped. Not even nosey ass TMZ.

The GP doesn't ever know when she's going to drop a song because they're not checking for it like fans do. This also wasn't a surprise release because it was announced the song was coming and sources said in July. The release also most likely was not rushed because of leaks since the whole song did not leak ahead of time. So to answer no it didn't hurt or help. What's helping is the song is good and what's hurting is that she's not actively promoting the song as much as she should be but like I've said many times she doesn't want major success. If she gets it that's probably a bonus and a boost for her but all she wants is to be excited about what she puts out and for the fans to like it.

I would also like to add that brit rarely does major heavy promo. She hasn't since femme fatale and X factor. I think she gets overwhelmed by it or something so the "lack" or promo (its really just scaled back promo not zero promo) shouldn't be a surprise at this point. The video will probably be all the promo she needs when it drops. We'll see how she promos the album but I suspect she's going to do a bit more than she did for BJ. Try to be positive about it.

It wasn't as good as we think it was or the site made it out to be. It's failing right now and it needs to be saved asap:crying2::crying4:

So true ... I thought they would drop everything at once
