DeniseBryson Posted August 12, 2016 #1 Report Posted August 12, 2016 Wow. I can't believe people are comparing Britney's new music to Selena Gomez - if anything it sounds more like Bieber's stuff but that's also because its the same songwriter/producing team. If anything Britney is taking back a sound she helped establish and leading pop music again - because its been stagnant sound-wise since "Blackout". Like, no offense to anyone on here but, really? Britney didn't have to pant or breathe as hard as Selena did on "Good For You" to emote sex. She wrote the modern rule book for it in pop music. Britney doesn't have the weight of having to prove like Justin Did with "Purpose" that she can rise above bad-press - she did that "Circus" and "Femme Fatale" She is basically showing these younger artists seat-fillers how its done. It's like she's saying "Awe thanks for keeping my seat warm for me - aww you shouldn't have..." #PreorderGloryOnItunes 6
Domino Posted August 12, 2016 #2 Report Posted August 12, 2016 It's just the style of music that is popular right now. I've only used that comparison because Selena has gotten a lot of attention lately for her use of this new pop sound, the really laid back kinda Ibiza vibe. You're right about it possibly being Britney bringing it mainstream to begin with- the cool, slowburn trancey club sound was definitely used on ITZ. So, in conclusion, because I honestly feel like this is partially aimed at me for a post I just made in another thread (and I'm self centered, also), when the comparisons come I think it's less "OMG she ripped Selena off, this is a Selena song" and more along the lines of "This is a really cool laid back sound reminiscent of the hits that recently made Selena Gomez slightly more relevant in the last year. Britney is on trend AND upping the game." At least that's how I meant it. 2
Daydream, Mariah's fantasy Posted August 12, 2016 #3 Report Posted August 12, 2016 let's be real, she started recording before selena 1

keldam22 Posted August 12, 2016 #5 Report Posted August 12, 2016 lets be real... Selena is nothing without Britney, Britney practically wrote the book on how to be sexy!!! Selena has been copying Britneys style for years, so when she releases one album all of a sudden Britney is copying her? No no, sit down and take a look at history!! Its so stupid, its like when the little monsters ripped Madonna because they heard express yourself and thought madonna was copying gaga when that song had been released 15 years before gaga even was a household name! 2
keldam22 Posted August 12, 2016 #6 Report Posted August 12, 2016 I don't mind Selena though, no shade, I just think people seem to forget that Britney is an icon and an inspiration to all these popstars these days.. 2

ALL the artists did this, Britney just adapted with the new sound and added her own sound. Britney's her inspiration. Selena doesn't think Britney is ripping her off... the GP is just uneducated when it comes to music tbh. 2

I haven't seen any but I wouldn't be surprised...

I'm a fan of a lot of people- Gaga, Madonna, Katy (her music, not so much herself personally). The only time I've been truly pressed regarding another artist is when Katy released Rise right on top of MM. Selena seems cool so I'm not surprised her peeps are. 1

A big one on stan Twitter is Bey & Brit - I have mutuals from both the Army and the Hive. 2
M.E. Posted August 12, 2016 #12 Report Posted August 12, 2016 It's not that she's ripping Selena off, it's that it's the same writers/producers. Obviously they will be similar. 2

Caroline77 Posted August 12, 2016 #16 Report Posted August 12, 2016 JLM sounds like Good for you tho. It's not a bad thing, it's a great song, i even said i wanted a "Good for you" for Britney, now we have it so im happy. It's the trend right now anyway so yeah it will sound similar, especially considering it's the same people who worked on it. Like it or not it IS a similar sound and you can't deny it unless you are deaf. But doesn't mean it's the same or that she copied Selena or whatever, there is no shade saying it sounds similar.

There's no shade in saying it sounds similar but there's shade in calling me deaf. I guess you never listened to any of Britney's music 98-08 because the current Bieber/Selena songs have elements of the electro-pop Britney's made a signature in her career - those cat meow/vocal pitches in all these songs sound like elements of different Britney classics, remember those cats floating in space in the bridge of "Break The Ice"? Apparently not. And I think "Just Love Me" sounds more "I'll Show You" and "Good For You" sounds more like Selena's attempt to be Lana Del Rey JS

You're just acting like it is a bad thing to say it sounds like a Selena song. It's not. People think it sounds like Good for you, end of story. If you have different opinion then fine, who cares. If at least GFY was a bad song i could understand but it's not so stop your drama. (i don't even understand what you mean with your cats things.)

I_need_me Posted August 12, 2016 #23 Report Posted August 12, 2016 It is true that some songs like Just Luv Me sound like Good For You, but I think that comparison is really unfair because to me Revival actually sounds like it was inspired by In The Zone, like, we all were saying that GFY sounded similar to Breathe On Me when it came out, so we could say that Britney is basically exploring the sound that she's always wanted to retake now that it's become popular! 1
TheOriginalDollz Posted August 12, 2016 #24 Report Posted August 12, 2016 I see nothing wrong with Britney wanting to try new sounds , even if its inspired by other artist! It's Britney styled!
btmyhbrit99 Posted August 12, 2016 #25 Report Posted August 12, 2016 It's not that its a bad thing to compare to selena but the thing is this is a britney forum not a selena forum so what you should be talking about is how she elevated whatever selena put out there and not talking about selena like she is reinventing something because even her sound isn't unique to her. I for one was not picking up too much of a copy cat vibe from brit in the 30 secs of JLM that we've heard tho.
