I voted for the kiss with Madonna, I really love that performance and all the controversy around it. That's what we need from her this year.

I think people who weren't around, weren't fans, or were too young when that performance happened don't truly understand how controversial, immediately iconic, and amazing that was. It was BIG. I remember everyone talking about it in school the next day. Some people's parents were super pissed and told them they couldn't be fans of hers anymore (tragic). My ma thought it was a hot performance and that's when she became a pseudo-Brit fan. Shit was amazing.

Both of these performances were all anyone could talk about for months!!! I mean instantly iconic for sure!! I did vote for Slave because it's my favorite performance of her EVER.. but I do think Oops and the Maddona Kiss definitely stirred more controversy and public interest.   It was such an exciting time and being so close in age to her (I'm 30) and growing up with those eras is something that I DO NOT take for granted!  #blessedbygodney

They definitely did stir up more controversy. I think "Oops" because it was the first of those types of performances for her. She was super clean cut up until that point then started doing those photoshoots that were a bit more raunchy plus this performance. People lost their minds LOL. "You mean she's not clean cut, angelic, no sex, Christian perfection?!?!" Like, was she ever really??? Re-watch BOMT for chrissakes lol.

 

And the Madonna one because women kissing was still thought of as a sexy thing for straight men and not normal. Glad Britney could crush homophobia worldwide with one performance.  Bless us, Brit.

 

That being said - I LOVED the Slave performance as well. It was really well executed, her body and whole look was incredible, the dancing was fantastic. Everything was on point! I went with Oops because it was my sexual awakening.

Had to vote for Slave....I was def torn between that and Oops.....But in Slave, SHE IS TOTALLY ON POINT! I mean its incredible. Everything flows really well regarding the whole performance, I'm always really impressed how long she held that snake and how confident she was with it.

This truth right here, it was the true showstopper of the night, and carried on the tradition of great shocking performances at the VMA's.  She had everyone talking, whether it be good or bad, but no one could deny she delivered.   The Snake is usually referenced as her best, but The Striptease was her coming of age moment and solidified the Madonna & Janet Jackson comparisons first and it still holds up today.  Every teen queen since has been compared but none could ever do what Britney did at 18 here, at least not with the same finesse.  Her hairography in this is on point too, Beyoncé took notes that night.
