Not bad! Glory sold 115,922 copies
Now let's keep promoting and make sure this masterpiece has the longevity it deserves! And who knows it may climb to a new peak position soon?

#3 in the US
#2 in the UK
#1 in Italy

#1 in Mexico
#1 in Ireland

Congrats queen Britney and Britney Army :yay1:

I'm satisfied with these numbers, 18 years into her career and she still manages to sell almost as much as the current popstars (Selena, Ariana... Even Rihanna isn't too ahead of her). What really makes me happy is the amount of top 5's she's gotten in Europe, I thought she'd flop here again but I was so surprised :o

A top three debut is exactly what I expected, congrats Britney! Glory is a fantastic album regardless of position on the charts!

She outdid BJ and managed a top 3 even though the album leaked A WEEK early! These are good news :yestbh:

She seems to be doing much better outside of the US.

She is, which is really unexpected! She seriously needs to do more overseas promo, imagine how much she would slay :crying1:

Good for you Brit. And I'm glad some fans are looking only at the silver linings.

It is a victory to be sure but also leaves a lot of room for discussion and is a tad bittersweet.

The fact that Barbara Streisand passed Britney in the U.S. definitely speaks volumes about certain aspects of Britney's career. Barbara is a legacy artist and has a huge fan base that will buy everything she releases and in some ways so is Britney, but the fact that Barbara Streisand surpassed one of Britney's BEST records (And fans the world over know this) singing Broadway tunes is something that can't be ignored. Is Britney Spears over? No. Obviously not. She's an icon and a legend, but if this doesn't push her TEAM and especially HER to make some BIG bold video/promo moves than I don't know what will and we can probably assume she will just continue to sell less and less from here on out.

Before you guys have a go at me remember I bought Glory as did many fans (Most have purchased multiple copies) and it is one of my favorite Britney albums and I have streamed like there's no tomorrow.

BUT we can't ignore the elephant in the room. This album will struggle to even sell 300,000 copies at this rate and that is tragic. At best if the next video and single is solid it can maybe sell 250,000 but really this album deserves to go at least platinum.

I hope this serves as a wake up call to Britney and her team because she'll only continue to lose label support at this point (in terms of having a big promotional budget) - I hope they got some really big tricks up their sleeves and deliver some strong videos and/or performances to help "Glory" get the success it deserves, otherwise I guess this is where Britney is at now selling very close to what an act like Hilary Duff does...

And honestly I'm shocked no one's mentioning that Janet's last album "Unbreakable" sold more than "Glory", that my friends is something to seriously ponder and we all know why it's happened.

Especially in the UK, people sympathise with her more for her breakdown. I guess. I guess the GP are getting annoyed with her lip syncing, the VMAs didn't help that perception. But people really need to let go of that and stop holding it against her.

Barbra was selling album + ticket pack, I think.

Are you talking about this one album or "from here on out" includes her future albums? is it's the second option, I 100% disagree. This album is in some ways working as damage control after the BJ and Pretty Girls flop and big mess. The results show the damage is controled, she's back on the game. From here on out, if she continues working and promoting hard like she is her future albums may sell waaaaay more than 120k.
When it comes to Glory, I agree it wil probably sell less from here but I think with good single choices and good single promotion (music videos + performances + some bright idea her team may have :frenchy:) it can stay on good positions for a long time.

Unbreakable debuted with the same number of copies as Glory but it managed to get the #1 that week since no one sold more than that. The number of copies is more important so I don't really care about that. There's also the fact that people were starving for new Janet music and Unbreakable was her first studio album in 7 years. Also, I don't think it had a strong international debut like Glory, but I'm not sure about that one, can't really remember her worldwide chart positions.

Janet sold more in terms of pure album sales. 109,000 to Britney's 95,000+

And Janet hasn't been a big selling artist since "All For You" and that was 2001, I'm sorry but its BS

@Universe>Exhale Do you want a trophee for being the most negative person in this forum? What a turn off :displeased: I'm waiting for the day you'll say something positive about her career. And don't come with the "fans are not blind, we need to be honest bla bla bla". I'm honest af and when Brit/ her team do something wrong I say it like it is. In this case, this is a great result and I'm happy for her. You should try it too ;)

But whatever, if it makes you happy to say she is a flop or whatever, go on and say it but I hope you know it isn't true :)

I think some people (not necessarily you, @Universe>Exhale) think they're being more "realistic" when they're being negative and that simply isn't the case. Both sides of the extreme are still the extreme. Britney shouldn't be compared to anyone but herself, and compared to her last release, Glory  is a huge success!

Her numbers were good, especially considering that it leaked a week early. Congrats Britney!
Considering the week it was released in, with Barbara Streisand being a legend and all and country always does ridiculously well, #3 isn't bad at all.

Is it really that hard for people to fathom the concept of deference?

I didn't know I couldn't love a song but not a video.

I didn't know I couldn't love an album but not its promo.

I didn't know I couldn't purchase a product, and be a fan of someone but also be objective.

I didn't know that being honest meant being negative or that everything HAD to be so black and white.

I'm not trying to be contentious, I'm just being honest.

Let me try to explain something, for those who have difficulty grasping such concepts, in the most rudimentary way possible, with the most basic of analogies:

I love Meryl Streep, I think she's one of the greatest actresses ever. Do I love every movie she's in? No. I love Fiona Apple because I think she's a brilliant songwriter/artist, do I love everything she does performance-wise/video wise/single-wise? Hell, no. That doesn't mean I'm being negative, I just know what I like. I also generally love the movie director David Lynch, but he has a few movies that I don't really care for - does it make me any less of a fan? Pfft. That's ridiculous. Does it make me less of a fan of Britney's if I say that Fiona Apple is a better songwriter/singer? Perhaps, to some, but not to me. I love them both, but for very different reasons!

I believe the music on "Glory" is wonderful pop music, some of the best Britney's recorded in her career and a clear progression for her as an artist, and I think it deserves the absolute best. Do I care if it sells platinum? No. But I think the fact that it didn't sell that well, like I stated in my earlier post, merits some discussion and is quite bittersweet - and its going to effect her brand as a whole.

Let me ask people who think I'm being negative:

Do any of you guys think that her management and RCA are happy with the numbers that came out? That it surpassed their expectations for the record? Because truthfully, I think those numbers are more than disappointing for someone of Britney's caliber, but they are also more disappointing considering how great the material is! I'm fully aware of the state of the music industry, but if Janet Jackson can get her album to sell more than Britney's first week with a song that peaked in the top 60 on the hot 100, something clearly needs to change.

The headlines aren't going to be kind about this, this week and Britney already has enough bad press about the VMA's. Her label/Management need to push hard if Glory is going to have any longevity. I want it to. It deserves to. But the bigger issue is Britney as a pop star, because look at what Janet's label did to her after a series of under-performing records. They stopped giving her those decent promotional budgets for videos, etc...
