The new issue of EW has a small article with little bits about the VMA'S. Here's what it said about Britters:

"BRITNEY KILLED IT...IF YOU WERE IN THE ROOM

Her first VMA's performance since her infamous 2007 showing felt like an electrifying comeback inside the arena. But those watching Spears perform her new single "Make Me..." at home weren't as impressed. Guess she didn't make them ooh."

In my opinion after the shadow entrance they simply needed more closeup shots because it was all about Britney's choreography, it was not a huge production. And they should have put beyonce at the end of the show so there would be less comparisons made. Upon rewatching it, it was a solid performance but it was easy to miss a lot of the great moments. When we saw the wide angle camera shots, the stage looked empty and boring compared to beyonce and rihanna.

It felt very cheap for being a "comeback" to the VMAs :ashley:

Agreed...I mean with a song like Make Me thooooo. How would you make that an epic VMA comeback. It's such a like warm song for me it's enjoyable but not as a lead single I think. I'm glad she released it as a single tho I appreciate it being diff

I think the shadow puppet thing wasn't the best choice. Considering all the hard work and artistry that went into it, it had very little payoff. If I hadn't already seen it somewhere else before, I wouldn't have understood what it was. But at the same time it's only impactful the first time you see it done. It wasn't bad, just didn't have the huge wow factor they were going for.

You call it cheap, I actually think it was smart to scale it down a little. To go on like nothing ever happened, like it is no big deal. The last few years Katy, Gaga, Beyonce, and rihanna has tried to overtop themself to the point of being ridicules, and we can't take Britney and ask her to do what they do, when even they underperform sometimes.. Britney raised that bar years ago, she doesn't need to do it again. Sometimes, less is more...
