"Pop stars have always mimed. At least Britney Spears is honest about it"

He didn't have to be so mean about her singing ability and he obviously didn't listen to the new record or any of her more subdued tracks where her vocals are much more in focus and honest.

Nevertheless, this is exactly why I don't care if she or any other artist like her lips. She's more honest about it in that she's not trying to deceive you into believing she's actually live (save for the maybe sarcastic answer to the question of will she sing live at POM). It's obvious in her performances. Like he said she would also be out of breath and struggling with the routines she does and also singling live. For her to do that would require a hella strong diaphragm and set of lungs and if she was that kinda of vocalist she wouldn't be doing the songs she does now, she'd be more like Pink, Adele, Christina.  To me it's more controversial when rappers or rock stars lip synch but even then its the whole issue of vocal endurance. Most artists these days lack it because the people who are responsible for their success don't care enough to force them into singing lessons or vocal prep. They just let the computers fix whatever mistakes happen and move along.

Too true. My boyfriend and I were just having a conversation about this. My favorite vocalist ever is Whitney Houston and she never moved at all in her performances (generally speaking). But singers aren't being trained like that nowadays - they're set up to be pure performers. You're dead on about them just relying on the computers to fix it all in the end.

Yeah I saw a YouTube video where a professional singer was giving lessons and he said the correct position for anyone trying to sing is standing straight up, no slouching or bending forward, with arms relaxed and to the side with just the arm that is holding the mic elevated slightly and with the mic a bit of distance away from the face. You breath up from the diaphragm and project. No way an artist like Britney is doing that now. But Whitney did. She barley moved except for when she was performing an upbeat number and then she would like just walk across the stage and do a little shoulder work or whatever clap her hands but only when she wasn't actually singing at that moment in the song.

But Spears's audience just want to hear her replicate records they already love with a nifty dance routine. Chances are, if she actually attempted to sing live, they would be horrified.

WTF? :orangu:

I don't want to hear only the same lip-synced CD tracks :orangu:

If you're a Britney fan in 2016 and complaining about lip syncing you've either haven't been a fan very long, too fooled by other artists that prerecord or just looking for a reason to complain.

She has been lip syncing since I was 14

i can't believe that I am 32 now, and STILL talking about it

Because performers have been performing live for hundreds of years and it is expected. I'm not saying anything about Britney, but when you go to a concert, you go expecting to hear your favorite artist live, with maybe some different verses or lyrics or some personal stories told in between. That's kinda the point of going to see them in the first place.
