What do you think are britney's signature songs, the ones that make her recognisable among the general public,  that almost everyone knows in the back of their heads and know it's britney?

I think they're

Baby

Oops

Toxic

Womanizer

and maybe Work Bitch to an extent

I tink they are the ones instantly recognisable

Gimme More is one her best, but I don't think the general public remembers it as a great song cuz she wasn't in a good place atm and it didn't really have its time to shine

I think they'd have to be Baby, Toxic and perhaps Oops. Other songs like Crazy or Womanizer are pretty recognizable aswell, but maybe just among the general pop fans, but the others I first mentioned are the ones that EVERYONE can identify Britney with.

I think it served its purpose really good atm as a fuck off to the media as haters, but I don't know if it qualifies as a signature song

Signature means like the one song that defines her in the GP's minds and I think thats BOMT. Point blank.

I think she has more than one song that defines her, she's went through so many image changes

BABY, OOPS, CRAZY, SLAVE, TOXIC, POM, GIMME MORE, WORK BITCH :tbh:

i wish she would still wear iconic video costumes.. I feel like all her costumes now are variations of swimsuit-type outfits and other sparkly normal street or club clothes :ashley:

True... It's what she's always been known for and it's a part of her iconic-ness

The quoting and my phone are being weird so to @King of Disaster I agree that she has more than one important song and most people who have heard of her would easily call out two or three songs by her if asked to name them. But I think the signature song would be the one song that defines her. And to the GP that would be BOMT. Maybe Toxic to some. Like Xtina signature is Beautiful and Beyonce's signature is crazy in love, Madonna's is Like a Virgin, Mj's is Thriller etc...they all have other songs that are important but to pick the one that wraps up everything they represent to the music industry or could define their overall output it would be those. Britney's is BOMT.

I see, but if I were to choose one it would be Toxic, I think it's the song that has left a bigger stamp in the music industry and it is kind of 'britney genre', whereas Baby is bubblgum pop which was kind of already done

If you ask the gp to name Britney songs, I believe the following ones  would mostly come up:

Baby

Oops

Toxic

Gimme more

And if I was reaaaally strict I would remove gimme more from the list!

I can't just say baby because in some countries Oops was much bigger than Baby. The same goes with Toxic!

I think Britney is one of the rare artists that has multiple signature songs!!! ;)

Yeah the song is more impactful but every else that came with BOMT has stuck in everyone's minds almost 20 years later.

For me as a true fan I would say her signature song is either Gimme More or (Radar) jkjkjk, Hard to Forget Ya (so serious) because its encompasses everything she is sonically and can be seen a metaphor for her fame.

Why jk?? I love Radar, it has everything a Britney hit needs to have, I'll never get over it never being a proper Blackout single! Hard to Forget Ya actually grew on me, I don't get the hatred towards it.

This tbh. A quick poll among my non-Britney fan friends (and I mean they couldn't name a Britney album or reference a music video) says it's BOMT. Oops was the next most remembered, they vaguely remember Toxic and none of them had any clue about Gimme More. There's a reason BOMT is her most referenced song on TV shows, in interviews, video montages, etc.

As a member above said it differs from country to country. I dont know where ur from but where im from almost no one remembers Baby, but literally EVERYONE knows Toxic and almost everyone knows Oops. As for Gimme More, it's the same as u said, shame... More people know Radar actually than GM

I love it too, it's my 3rd fav off of blackout and my 2nd fav off of circus but it's not a signature song. Casual Britney fans probably don't know that one by heart the same way they know toxic, bomt or oops.

As far as HTFY I think people here hate it because they don't think it will succeed as a single and don't find the song interesting compared to liar, just love me or slumber party but I love it (it's my 3rd fav off of glory).

The US. BOMT is definitely considered her most iconic song here since it was mega huge here. Yeah I think GM is more of fanbase popular lol. I remember when it came out a lot of my friends were like, "Britney's still around???" They thought she'd fallen off the radar after getting with K-Fed.

I think Toxic is the most popular one outside of the US.

as for Gimme More, ikr? Same with my friends. Piece of Me and Radar were better accepted tho

In my country the most iconic (so signature's song) songs are: BOMT, Ooops, Slave, Toxic, Gimme More, Womanizer.

I think Gimme More is iconic for the "It's Britney Bitch" line
Without this, I think the song would be less popular  (the same thing for Scream & Shout)
