Despite a robust creative output over the years, perhaps Vega is still best remembered for her two earliest and biggest hits: the poetic observations in "Tom's Diner" and "Luka," which deals with child abuse. In fact, "Tom's Diner" was once again a radio hit last year – nearly 30 years after its original a capella release on her first studio album Solitude Standing – when Giorgio Moroder remade it with Britney Spears singing the familiar lines: "I am sitting in the morning/At the diner on the corner/I am waiting at the counter/For the man to pour the coffee ..."

"I have to say, I was surprised," Vega says. "It came right on the heels of Fall Out Boy [who sampled the song on "Centuries"]. I thought, 'That's great that Britney Spears wants to do this.' I was impressed because it was her idea and ... it's showing maturity in her career choices."

Vega admits she was also surprised how closely Moroder followed the DNA remix that hit Number Five on the Hot 100 in 1990 after its release, hoping it may take on a disco tinge. "I'm a big Donna Summer fan, and I was expecting a real transformation," she says. "I was thrilled [Britney] did it, and I hope she does it in her live show."

For those interested, The link has the interview VIA VIDEO, if you'd like to read her body language as she says it.
She seems like she has a genuine respect for Britney & the re-make!

I'm so glad she had nice things to say about Britney's cover, these kind of old school singers are kinda snobbish when pop artists sing their songs (see Joan Jett), so I'm happy this wasn't the case! Tom's Diner is an amazing song and Britney and Giorgio Moroder did it justice :crying1:

I agree.

I still hate Joan Jett for the shade she threw, especially considering the song isn't even hers, and hers is a cover itself.
The original singers of the track, and original release of "I Love Rock'N'Roll" is by the band "The Arrows"

The lead singer, who is the song's writer, spoke out about how Shady Joan was, and that he absolutely loved Britney's version - more then Joan's!

I'll find it.

here we go - It's not the right article - but it's him speaking briefly about Britney's version. He doesn't shade Joan Jett in this, but it could have been before she shaded Brit.

“I Love Rock 'n' Roll” is such a well-known song—when did you know that it had gone from being a hit single to an all-time classic?
Easy answer—when Britney Spears covered the song in 2002, it opened the floodgates. Her cover showed there was more depth to the song than just a hard rock approach. Most Americans don't know that she released the song as a single and had a hit with it everywhere except the U.S., where the song is so indelibly associated with Joan Jett that Britney didn't bother releasing her version. Now, thanks to Britney, there are all sorts of versions of the song, from country & western to sexy chanson, all over the world. I think Britney's 2002 cover was a turning point, a step up for the song in terms of showing its diverse and flexible nature. That said, I have great respect forJoan Jett's 1982 hard rock cover, which gave the song a very healthy life in the U.S. Before that, it had only been heard in the U.K.—my original 1975 version was released just in England and Belgium.

Wow, it's so rare to see a rock singer praising Britney like that, not just saying "she's kinda cool I guess" or something like that, I'm impressed :britwoo:

During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Suzanne Vega (the original recording artist of the hit song “Tom’s Diner) had nothing but wonderful things to say in regards to the remake of her song that Britney recorded with Giorgio Moroder. Check out the full interview below:

Such a missed opportunity and should have been given the lead single treatment for Giorgio Moroder's Déja Vu.   Suzanne Vega has always been positive about Brit's cover which is great still.  :cuteclap:

i still think britney version lacks lots of lyrics to be considered a full cover.

I've always found Britney's cover to more melodic and ends perfectly with "And so I raised my head."  :yeahkright:
