What does the American Music Awards have against Britney Spears?

She has worked her buns off this year.  For many years in fact.

I find it downright disrespectful that Britney has won only one AMA (for Best New Pop/Rock Artist in 2000) and hasn't been nominated since 2001. We all know that she has delivered countless records since then-- some very sensational, some very memorable tunes. Her amazing reign as Princess of Pop should not end at being nominated for "...Baby, One More Time" and "Oops! I Did it Again." Classic albums yes, but not the greatest nods of Britney's exceptional legacy. Hard to believe that "Slave 4 U," "Toxic," "Gimme More," Piece of Me," "Womanizer," and "Til the World Ends" flew under the AMA radar, but "Glory" (which hopefully hopefully scores some notice next year) cannot be another album without honors.  Maybe it didn't make the cutoff date. Still, she could've been nominated for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist (the three artist system is terrible) or even Artist of the Year.

This year's nominations is another slap in the face: http://www.inquisitr.com/3591575/american-music-awards-nominations-2016-full-list-of-ama-nominees/

I guess it says a lot that while the Grammys are voted on by (snobby, elite) members of the recording association, the AMAs are determined by music buyers and the public. And we all know how the general public feels about Britney..... :zoomzoom:

I know right? I just don't understand why people still think about the past Britney: they say that she can't dance anymore, they say she doesn't write any of her songs and is just a puppet of the record companies (although she has co-written many of them, and now she has taken back control of her career) and they say that she is far from a good role model (yes, we had that 2007 time period, but it's over, she's changed). I think that she is a good person. I don't care if people judge her music, we all have our own taste of music. But I really don't like when they start judging her as a person. They should think about how much she has changed over the last years. She has proven us that she is a good parent and is definitely capable of making her own decisions now. That's the Britney Spears I've gotten to know when I started listening to her music. And that's the Britney Spears they all should get to know.

I KNOW! It's so so SO unfair how over the years all these award shows keep snubbing her and then they nominate other artists who don't really deserve it. I mean, really? Carrie Underwood artist of the year? I didn't even know she had music out or anything :waitWAT:

I agree Saira! Her lack of nods over the years screams a personal vendetta against her as a person and not her overall musical accomplishments/contributions. She is one of the biggest acts in the music business and for her to have only ONE American Music Award is straight up foul.  She has evolved into an exceptional entertainer, someone who has the capability to write/co-write/compose amazing songs. She is a wonderful person, caring, loving, sweet-natured. I care a lot about how her music is perceived. I think we all do.

Carrie Underwood is alright. Just okay. But she's no Britney Spears. Neither is Taylor Swift-- the woman who continues to over-succeed.

Britney is far more deserving than any woman in the Pop/Rock category this year. I'm not going to say she needs these awards, but I am going to say that she should be truly considered. This industry is complete hogwash. They would rather use her exquisite presence for ratings rather than offer her a golden statuette for her gifted talents.
