I_need_me Posted November 19, 2016 #1 Report Posted November 19, 2016 I mean, not literally, obviously, I don't think they saw my thread or anything, but a while ago I made a thread about wanting Britney do to a music video that instead of relying on the shock factor and the over the top special effects would be more focused on the aesthetics and the cinematography, and that's what we got with Slumber Party I wish I knew about cinematography so I could analyize it like a film or something, but I personally think that the director paid a lot of attention to the editing and the way he shot it, which is why we got such an amazing masterpiece! 7
Caroline77 Posted November 19, 2016 #2 Report Posted November 19, 2016 But Britney's videos never really had over the top special effects tho ? i mean unless i have bad memory I don't consider SP being an "aesthetic" video tho. I think what makes it good is the slow motions, and the fact the video isn't too fast like you can actually see what you're watching, if that makes sense. 3

What I had in mind is the Work Bitch MV and the original Make Me video, I feel like there's too much going on in both of them and they rely on the explosions, the shocking moments, etc. Slumber Party has a bit of a shock factor aswell (especially for the conservative people ) but what stands out the most, at least to me, are the settings, the colors, the lighting and, as you said, the fact that the video is not too spastic and the viewers are able to appreciate all that! I mean, of course it's not like a Lana del Rey MV, but I do think that the director was very focused on creating appealing images like these: 9

Her videos are very simple, but she's definitely the queen of aesthetics (at least among the mainstream artists)

Imo the only flaw is the scenes with Britney and Tinashe, when they are in the room where they do the choreo, there is something i don't like. (don't kill me please because i love the video, it's just that scene) The framing isn't very good, there's even a moment where tinashe goes on the floor and we can't see her, just her head, because it's focused on Britney, it bothers me. And i like the colors but the visual render compared to the other scenes is surprisingly bland imo. Maybe they should have darken the room and put lights in the background, ya know so then it's like silhouettes, i think it would have been a lot better. But i don't know maybe it's just me.

Yeah, I feel like maybe they wanted the choreography to be seen clearly and to be the main focus during those scenes, and for that reason the room where they dance is very simple aswell, I mean, there's no furniture, no props... They didn't want anything to take the attention away from them. I agree, it would've looked much better with a little more smoke, or bubbles, I don't know, something to match the concept of a ghosts party since that's apparently the whole idea behind the video!
therealmgo Posted November 19, 2016 #9 Report Posted November 19, 2016 I don't say this with any bad intentions, but I definitely think with this video, Team B is definitely taking a page from the indie/Tumblr-ish aesthetic. I like it tho

HannahLou Posted November 19, 2016 #11 Report Posted November 19, 2016 I do love how this video has been filmed
JoshLee Posted November 19, 2016 #12 Report Posted November 19, 2016 I love music videos when they go with a classy party and have neon type theme, those seem to make the best MV
