Well, to be fair, those words could be used to describe Mariah Carey as well.   Plus I'm strictly talking about what has she done to Mariah personally, dounut-gate/"I hate America" controversy -- which was overblown -- is irrelevant here.

True, but I could understand if Selena Gomez was being touted as her successor.  Out of all the new Disney/Nickelodeon pop girls, Ariana Grande has the vocal chops to back up the "New Mariah" moniker, of course nothing beats the original but it wouldn't hurt her to at least acknowledge her talent.  (The shade & her reaction was funny, ngl.)
