How come she won her first VMA in 2008? Like, really, HOW? Baby One More Time, Oops I Did It Again, I'm a Slave 4 U, Toxic, they're all incredibly iconic and successful songs and videos, how could she not win any award for them? It's beyond me, seriously, especially considering that her performances there are some of the most legendary moments of the VMA's. She's been robbed her entire career and it makes me sad and mad

A lot of the people she was up against at the time were just as popular as she was (NSYNC especially)  the only one I think she unfairly lost was Toxic for all the categories it was nominated in.

Actually, she got a Grammy before a VMA #SoSad

The year Toxic was nominated was also the first year of the start of her downward spiral and I think MTV just didn't take her seriously at that point. She won for Circus because they wanted to make up for snubbing her all those times before considering she just came through the breakdown. Hopefully she picks up some more in the future but the show is so irrelevant that it doesn't matter at this point.
