I think that Work Bitch is a really personal song. Seriously.

Generic is super overused in this fan base. A lot of songs that are universal is still personal and/or about Britney's life.

Because there is a glitch it means she wasn't involved in the album? That production error happened after the song was done. Even Orbit had no idea about it. And Britney had vocal editing her whole career. That has nothing to do with rather or not the songs are personal.

It can be personal, I'm not inside Britney's head, so my opinion is just that, an opinion...but for me all of the lyrics are so generic that 90% of the people can relate to them...so I believe that britney identifies with them, but it's because they're so generic...

so it's personal? probably but not her most personal stuff, for me at least...even small things like the glitch on alien show how involved she was with her album...she didn't heard the final result before accepting the final editing of everything?? how didn't she noticed that glitch? or some of the editing in her vocals, it seems so careless...this album seems so rushed that the personal marketing doesn't make it for me...

I agree that generic wasn't the best term, universal is better, I'm not english and I couldn't find other word to say what I wanted...

and about the vocal editing, I know that she always had, but it was well done...this album has so many mistakes!! don't cry has a lot of them, alien has the glitch, hold on tight has more as well, I'm not even gonna start with passenger, body ache...what I mean is that if it was personal and if she cared a lot about the album she would had listen to it before they make the copies for selling, she would say this is not good, we have to go to the studio rework this...just shows how careless she and her team were, in my opinion

Britney listened to the songs when the producer was done with the song (like what we were shown in IAAFF with BFB). Alien's Glitch happened after that. Some of the later songs she probably didn't get a chance to hear it until it was too late to change. The album couldn't be delayed because RCA wanted it released before the Overseas markets closed for the year and that first week in December left her time after the small promotion to focus 100% on Vegas.

What bugs me with Britney Jean is that Britney never really clarified what its songs were really telling. Like when she said that Work Bitch is a term of endearment for her gay fans. Every time she said it it felt like she clearly thought about something else or weren't even sure what the song was about. I mean it really seemed like she did not agree with what she was saying about it.

Yeah, I agree, the term werk/werq bitch is what she's referring to but the song itself has nothing to do with gay culture.  It's about working (bitch) to get what you want out of life, the finer things don't come easy so go after it, set to an aggressive dance beat.  It's a more universal message then the one specific audience that both she and her team were actively marketing to.  If anything the bridge reads like the real shout out to gays (I agree with the OP's interpretation): persevere because there are people along the way that will doubt, try and deter, so continue onward with your head held high. A very positive message, and I think "Work Bitch" is one of the solid gems from Britney Jean.  So kudos to will.i.am on that really one of the few things, tbh.

no i think u r looking into this too much. but ive always thought it was personal. like she literally says it like it is- she had to work hard for her body cuz she wanted to be skinnier, that entire song is basically advice she's said to herself the past years and so thats why it's personal. i dont understand how people dont get that. i could tell right away it was. even though it is a fast paced song. the lyrics r really obvious. totally applies to her life
