So I've been rewatching some old Britney interviews, and I've come to the conclusion that she HAS always been sort of shy! I used to think it was an excuse her team threw out because of her interviews post-breakdown, but to be honest, she had plenty of "awkward" interviews before, too. She has often had short, polite answers. For example, David Letterman 2008, Ellen 2004. Don't get me wrong, it was less common then, but still...

I guess my question is this: why do you think people complain about her being so awkward NOW? Do you think it might be because people were more accepting of a young adult being shy? I mean, she definitely gave some funny answers (awkward phrasing or confusing to follow) back then and repeated key Britney words like "cool" "uh huh" & "very cool", but you don't see people complaining that she was "unable to hold a conversation" then. Also, don't think I'm bashing her!!! I understand what it is like to mix up your words because you're nervous - that is my ENTIRE life.

It's super frustrating to read comments about how awkward she is now because I really believe she has always been like this. It's likely more obvious now because of all she's been through, but COME ON PEOPLE!!! :P

EDIT: This also goes for her outfits! People complain about what she wears now, but she has always liked wearing more casual/comfy outfits!

well thats a good point tbh, sometimes on recent interviews i see her hands she is always like playing with them so wierd and i just nitecid she has always do that.

but the thing i dont get is why people shade here now more now, i think they are blaming here since she hasn't pleased the fans in they way we wanted to

FF: she was very shy and the dancing was wierd

BJ/VEGAS: the album was very dessapointing, no promotion and people thought she was getting lazy....

i mean every era there is something wrong with britney, i rememeber the mean coments on exhale during the black out era and the Circus era, people won't accept the fact that she is 32 she has 2 kids and she ain't 20 anymore, most of fans excpet britney to behave, dance, dress, and bee like she is 20

I mean, she's 32, not 22 y.o. The interviews nowadays are so pretentious and so out of context, like, the only thing they want is some "Britney's shameless piece" or something like that. They're not focused on the music, a little part of them want it but everyone else wants a "piece of her"....

I concur. It's something I've noticed as well, I accept it and welcome it. I think it's an incredibly endearing trait to be so shy and often awkward, it's literally my life as well. I think it's refreshing that she isn't rehearsed to a T, and when they try to make her say something it's obvious she doesn't want to. I think it's adorable that she plays with her hands and her mind wanders off because seriously sitting through a 24 hour day of interviews sounds shit, they repeat the same questions she's been asked for 15+ years.

She's always been pretty blunt, repetitive and awkward in her interviews, but it's just another thing I like about her... Often i want to respond to something lengthily or wittingly and because i trip over my thoughts and words and get anxious in the process i just stick to short answers and expressive faces

I love that about her

and i agree the people that bash her for her fashion sense and interview style have never been real fans in the first place

I don't know why but there's this constant need for people to constantly search for changes in britney. They can't accept that she hasn't changed much other than maybe being more private or reserved. I don't relate it to a lot that britney is/does more so chasing this almost unobtainable standard

well i do think its much worse nowadays so it is a bit different but yeah most of those interviews from back than are very  much like now. i think it could b because of the bad reputation she's got. people nowadays percieve a person differently because of it. its like once the person does something bad, thats all they see from then on- only bad in them.

and the clothes looks worse becasue well she used to wear much cuter stuff and she looked a bit different. she started aging now and it doesnt look as good to the GP

I don't agree at all...I never thought she was shy, she was very funny, nice and outgoing...I'm not saying that she didn't have off days but it was very rare...and back then her answers were actually elaborate most of the time, at least she spoke more than 4 words in a row...

we had glimpses of "old" britney in the britney jean interviews, she seemed happier, and talked more, and it was in a good mood for every interview...this kind of talk was more about femme fatale interviews I think...I believe that most of the fans liked the new interviews from this era

but yeah, I don't think britney was shy at all

I do this too. My dr told me its called "manual ocd" - its common with anxiety patients. This would explain why she is a chronic nail biter as well (like me!) I always have to be doing something with my hands, especially when Im anxious.

one of the things i love the most about britney is how, no matter what has happened to her throughout her life, she's still the SAME girl she's always been. she's shy and awkward and completely down to earth and humble. she's relatable in that aspect, and i find her quirky traits absolutely adorable. britney is britney, she stays true to herself, and i respect that greatly. she hasn't changed, it's the expectations of fake fans, or ones unwilling to grow, that have.

a lot of people tend to compare interviews from nowadays with ones from the britney/itz era, which is when i think she was at her peak confidence and was a lot more spontaneous. but if you watch ones from the bomt and oops eras, shes much more muted and quiet and shy. she always has been. i think her anxiety is a lot higher now and its more evident that shes not that comfortable talking to the reporter.
