Some people call you a liar if you say that you witnessed this moment. Well, I can say in all seriousness, I am part of the very first wave of Britney fans. Yes. I am 34 years old. I'm just 2 years older than her.

'...Baby One More Time' (the single) came out in 1998. The album, in 1999.

I had completed high school but still had not started collegue yet, so this happened in days of temporary jobs. One day I was washing my car, and I usually turned on the radio to listen to some music while I was doing it. So there was this afternoon when I was doing that (I remember it was Saturday because I was washing the car and that's the only day I do that) and once a song ended, it came BOMT. I didn't pay much attention to it but the voice sounded very particular. The song was catchy and all, and the first thought I had was: "Is that Debbie Gibson? Yeah, maybe she is... but I don't know this song. But hey... she is from the 80's... and she sounds like a teenager.. what the heck...". For those of you who don't know who is Debbie Gibson, well... she was the Britney Spears of the 80's. Curiously enough, Britney follows Debbie on Twitter. But that's another story.

Another day I was at home listening to the radio again and the song came up, but once more I didn't know who the girl was; this time I paid more attention and realized it was not Debbie Gibson who was singing. So I was very curious about that now. And then, I heard the song like 5 or 6 times more and I started to like it. Keep in mind that I am a rock music fan so pop hardly moves my soul at all. At that time I had an old stereo from which you could record audio tapes, so I was one day with a clean tape waiting for the song to come up so that I could record it on that tape and so did I. I could then listen to it many times and learn its lyrics.

I didn't pay much attention to the matter afterwards and around one month after I heard the song the first time, I was one day surfing through the channels of the TV and I stopped immediately when I heard the tune on the TV, this time with a video. At that day I didn't know who Britney Spears was. But one thing I know: the first scene I saw was Britney dancing between the lockers of a school, dressed with this school girl outfit and pigtails, and I went fucking crazy. I had no idea this was the girl I had been listening to. And why not mentioning it? I was sexually moved to her. A lot. She looked fucking sexy in that outfit.

I didn't have a computer at the time and the whole internet thing started around 1992, 1993... so in 1998 internet was somewhat new for dummies like me and not everyone could afford a connection or even a decent computer to navigate. So I didn't even think of looking for this 'Britney Spears' thing on the internet. And to be honest, I didn't feel like looking for more of this. One day as I was again on the TV watching music videos, it came 'Sometimes' on the screen. Sometimes is my very favorite video from Britney, to this day. Why? I have a very special feeling with that video that NO OTHER Britney video has been able to transmit, ever (even when my favorite song is Overprotected). It is Britney now resembling purity and innocence, in a lovely beach, all dressed in white and using this cap and blue sweater when lying on the sand. Oh my God. If Britney's schoolgirl make me desire her, now this scene of Brit sitting there on the sand totally killed me. It was too much to bear. Now I wanted more. And since Sometimes is a very mellow tune, I was moved for her. Big time.

I remember I told my friends on the neighborhood about these things and all of them were like.. 'dude.. what's wrong with you? Are you serious? That music is for girls, not for you. You are a rock star. You are learning to play drums. You just purchased a drum kit. Don't waste your time with that garbage'. And I was like.. 'yes.. they are right, what am I doing?' But the more I saw Britney in those videos and listened to these two singles on the radio, the more I liked her.

So one day of 1999, my birthday, September 18th 1999, I asked my older sister a very particular gift: Britney Spears' 'Baby One More Time' album. When I asked my sister this she was like... 'what? are you serious? is that what you really want for your birthday?' And I nervously answered 'yes'... 'Don't you want another thing? Like a Aerosmith CD, or something?' And I was like... 'no... I want that... I like that girl... I want to see what she is all about...' So my sister went and purchased me a copy of the disc. I was the happiest guy. When I opened it I saw the booklet and saw this picture of Britney sitting on a white chair and now I was pretty sure I was in love with this girl. I made a shirt for me with that picture and I used it in my neighborhood. I was literally crazy. This was totally unacceptable for some guy, especially with my rock music culture and background. I was a disaster. And when I read the title of this song, 'Email My Heart' I said to myself... 'fuck. I screwed up. What the hell was I thinking? This is completely cheesy, girly stuff...' I ended up loving that song.. and the whole album.

8 albums later, I still love this southern girl born in McComb Mississippi but raised in Kentwood Louisiana. Of course my views on her are different but not in a bad way... on the contrary, in a positive but especially mature way. I respect her as a woman and I care for her like she was someone very close to me. People around me are now used to the fact that I love Britney, but still, they see that as something weird and don't accept that very well... She is in my cell phone background. She is in my laptop background. She is in my Xbox 360 background and my PS3 background. She is the background in my PS Vita. She's everywhere. And it all started with Baby One More Time. It's been an amazing journey !

I'm 2 days late for this, but I listened the whole album today.

It had been years since I heard songs like I Will Still Love You or Thinking About You, but it definitely brought me a lot of childhood memories.

I remember the first time I heard/saw ...Baby One More Time, I was 8 years old. MTV was on while I was getting ready for school (3rd grade), when the video came up. I remember how immediately I loved the song, but I couldn't catch the name of the singer. On the following days I learned her name: Britney Spears. I was a fan already. I began to look for anything I could find about her, I still have some pages of the magazines I bought at that time.

Luckily, all of my friends liked her too. We used to try to dance the choreography, and as we were just learning English, we sang the lyrics all wrong and mostly in gibberish.

Some months later, my father and I were in a book shop. I saw the CD and grabbed it. Though my dad wasn't convinced, I just didn't let go and he ended up buying it for me. It was my second CD ever (my first was BSB's Millenium).

15 years later, I hardly ever listen pop (especially mainstream) music anymore, but Britney remains my favourite artist ever and a lot of her songs are really close to my heart. Even today I can't think of pop songs which are better than BOMT or Born To Make You Happy.

I'm 24 years old now, so it's safe to say I've been listening to her music most of my life. I love Britney Spears and will be her fan forever. :crying2:

I did the same. I listened to it in its entirety. Beautiful album. It's funny, your story of BOMT is pretty similar to my story.

I know! I think it's because MTV and magazines were almost all the places to find any information of her, as internet was just starting. I think I saw every TV especial aired in Mexico about her back then. All her Making The Video's, The Diary, Driven, all her VMA's performances, etc..... :crying1: Also it's nice to meet other people who are fans from the very beginning, none of my childhood friends really like her anymore, they might like a couple of the recent songs, but none of them still a fan.

It's also funny how my current friends usually don't believe me when I tell them I like Britney Spears. I grew to like mainly 'indie', jazz and classical music, so it's super weird for them when they find my bubblegum pop songs and Britney's entire discography in my ipod. :aintevenmad:

I'm with you on this one bro.

It's exactly the same with me. I have all Britney discography and at the same time I have all Iron Maiden albums, Slipknot's, Megadeth's, Dragonforce's, Pantera's etc... So it's like Britney stands in the middle of all that. All people who know me is aware of Britney, and they never say anything. Nor positive or negative. They just know I love her so much and I guess they respect that.

It's funny that sometimes something is said on the news that is not necessarily good, like... "Work Bitch" is a video full of sex, and Miley Cyrus acts like a whore, or Justin Bieber menaced a paparazzi... whatever. My family will always comment negatively on all this, except Britney's news. They won't speak bad about her. Not because they think she's a saint, but because they know they can piss me off if they do that. They respect her because of me.

That's the stupidest thing in the world. Haha. Britney doesn't even know me. And I love her like crazy.

You and I might be alike in the sense that we don't spend 24/7 in Britney's music. I spend a lot of time of the day listening to rock records. I have a covers band so I have to constantly learn music to play with my band. But of course, I have my Britney moments too, when I listen to one of her records or watch any of her DVDs.

It's a weird love but hey, it's love in the end.

A cover band, that’s great!

Yes! I know, I don't care my friends know I'm her fan, even me being a girl people just go at first like "really?, Britney Spears?". I think there's a lot of judgment towards her, just for being Britney Spears, people just go "Oh that's sh*tty pop music", when she has some great songs.

In fact I once made some of my hipster friends listen Soda Pop, Showdown and Get Naked (as these are really unknown songs for the gp), and told them it was some new indie singer. They really liked them, especially Get Naked...

... Then I was like "surprise! It’s Britney Spears!" :whatdidyousay: and all of them just went "Oh, those are really good songs, I didn't knew Britney had such good music….†:umomg::o

So they don't mess with Britney anymore
