Direction for Album 9

  1. 1. What direction should Britters take Album 9?

    • Mature-sound. EP'd by Will Orbit, supported by Ryan Tedder et al
      9
    • Modernize bubblegum pop. AGAIN.
      4
    • Trapney teams with Diplo as EP and Ratchetney slays the masses while Jayden and SP are blindfolded the entire era
      9
    • Fuckin weird shit by Flume and friends that the GP isn't immediately ready for but it revolutionizes pop down the line
      6
    • Play it safe. Max Martin and Dr. Luke make her a Teenage Dream, it slays charts with vapid hits
      5
    • It's faded. It's cool. It's Britney and Danja once more
      5
    • An album full of Baby Boys and Let Gos that probably debuts outside the Top 5
      2
    • Britters pulls a Lana, hires a totally new cool rock-inflected EP, and garners critical acclaim without any real radio success
      2

I chose Trapney. Blindfold JJ and SP tbh, I need to see Britney be what she is--the hottest, most controversial pop star alive--one more time. Even club hits can have a significant meaning, so not all the lyrics have to be about sex and partying.

Completely agreed! :mhm:

And I see you took the time to read my fresh and urban descriptions :bomt:

The poll results are so interesting, I love how diverse the response is tbh :yay1:

:crying2: I'm caught between mature william orbitney, and diplo ratchetney

Me too :crying2: I came up with too many good options :crying2: #Valet4BritMgmt :goofney:

So many great choices! I decided on bringing it back to the roots and modernizing bubblegum pop AGAIN

OMG my 2000th post! Is there anybody else with that many posts? :orlynow:

Edit: now i see the status, why don't i have MATM cover?

congrats btw  and the more i think about bubblegum pop revolution 2.0, the more I kinda like it :orlynow:

I choose other, even though in the poll I was the only one who selected Weirdney

She needs:

1. underground/indie... &/or .. acclaimed musicians/producers outside of corporate pop (who still understand pop)

2. Live instruments...Real musicians...A band...for that human touch missing in pop music. Fx can be added in post production to "modernize" the sound, along w contemporary electronic devices. I think one track of a "worldly" beat and instrumentation could be cool...like imagine African/Asian polyrhythm drum beats over Celtic melodies, or traditional Chinese/Japanese instuments, and given a slick bassline and modern electronic fills &/or Radiohead-esque production fx

3. Art over commercial appeal (in the end the appeal will gain new fans anyways)

4. If there is gonna be a familiar producer on a track or 2, I'd go w Max Martin & B&A. It can still have Max Martin on a track (he is a musician unlike most corporate knobpushers/mouse clickers, and it would be interesting to see where he takes things w a more independent direction)

5. I'd label it as "indie pop"...but that could mean so much

6. It could still have some commercial appeal, but the target would be music fans as opposed to pop fans. Like off-beat rockers and artists like Radiohead, Bjork, Beck, NIN, Tori Amos, Ramstein, The Knife....but not really like any of those, because it would ultimately be a Britney album and a more accessible sound. It should draw from as many instrument based genres as possible from jazz, blues, funk, rock, metal, psychedelic...and then add the necessary elements of electronics in post production, or as a support to the bands. I say that the band should be the backbone, partly to give her a creative outlet and experience of jamming w a band (keep in mind songwriters like Sia and others she works w, only write lyrics and maybe a vocal melody, but they bring that to their own songwriters to make the actual music...then it is polished in production).

Britney seemed to enjoy jamming w the band during Onyx, as Im sure most of you are aware that some reports of her jamming w the band in rehearsals, and getting into it. With a band you get an energy and communication that non-musicians dont understand...it's an energy that feeds off of each other. She would not get to be as expressive in a studio, and the band can meet w her and work on songs as though she was the lead singer in a band...but the final result would be studio recordings. Essentially she would go to band practices, so the right group of laid back cool people could be found...and there are plenty of them. Also, the world seems devoid of popular rock that's any good, so a Britney album bringing art-rock vibes to the radio could have some serious implications.

This album I envision, is in my head of course...but if I was magically a consultant or collaborator for the album I could make something magical happen, especially if I could handpick some talent. I also play music myself, so I would try to be as involved in it as possible.

Fuckin weird shit by Flume and friends that the GP isn't immediately ready for but it revolutionizes pop down the line

bc i want britney to innovate and create a new Blackout. it wasn't appreciated at the time but it did really influence pop music. not necessarily flume but yeah.

modernize bubblegum would be my 2nd choice.

yasss you voted weird.....im not alone not alone not alone

Instead of appealing to the mainstream market, she should branch out and reach more people...her old fans may be mixed, but they have her entire catalog to listen to, and in the end I think they may be happy w experimental sounds

to see her successful w more serious music fans will slay more to me, even if it sells as poorly as BJ, but does something unique and makes a stamp. In fact I'd rather see her go an unexpected route, &produce a high quality artistic album...than to see her get high on the charts.

I really dont think she needs to prove to anyone that she can make #1 albums...her career has been about as successful as you can ask for...so why not bring it up an artistic/experimental notch? That's my opinion anyways

agreed. all i want is a high quality, innovative album from her. i do want it to do well on the charts bc i'd want her to see she's getting recognition for the high quality album but if she didn't care about the charts, i wouldn't care how it performed, i just want a quality, artistic album.

that's why i love lana so much bc she writes for herself, not for success. she's a major visionary so once she gets a concept, she knows what she wants. ultraviolence is nothing at all for the GP but it still was #1 while being a critically acclaimed, artistic, high quality album.

i'd definitely love to see britney go more artistic and experimental as long as it's still a high quality album.

I actually dont really know much bout Lana

but ia...I wanna see her succeed...but ultimately success will be an album that was something she is proud of, a labor of love. If it can sell alot that would be awesome...in fact I have ideas (we all have better ideas than Team Britney lbr) that would be good for marketing, so I feel like it could reach good sales figures, but I don't wanna expect her team will promo & manage those details AND to take an unexpected turn musically.

Since I doubt I can have both, I just choose artistic experimental album w mediocre sales. As much as I dream about this record, and have been for a while, I try to keep my dream as realistic as possible and recognize that if she has an innovative album, we can leave it up to her promoters and team to fuck up opportunities.

I'd die 2x though if both came true

@@Far Beyond I would LOVE for Trent to produce a good industrial-influenced album for Brit. If he could helm a project that gives her a How to Destroy Angels vibe, throw in some MIA/Charli XCX glitch pop into the mix too, I'd lit'rally die :mhm: There's teeny hints of industrial (and i'm talkin' miniscule) in FF, and most of it is in Unbroken :gloria: but those moments, whether it's the percussion or the audio flourishes, just mesh perfectly with Brit's voice.

Trent would be one of my top choices...I would love to have a conversation w Britney and get involved in that. I would do it for free just for the dream to come true. I have some personal ideas and not only do I do creative writing, I have alot of friends who are artists, writers, and musicians who I would collaborate with. But I would leave my ideas up to whoever we decide for executive producer. Songwriting and production are often almost the same thing in corporate pop, as they sit in front of computers and click around on their software.

In my vision, the songwriting starts w the band. I am not entirely sure if I want a singular band, or guest musicians for each track. It would end up being a community-based art project where alot of people throw around ideas...unless some one happens to be prolific and take a strong lead, in a natural way that feels democratic...ultimately with Britney painting the vision and in charge of what she is comfortable with.

I would just like to be an organizer, initiator, consultant, and collaborator...someone who can weigh in on some opinions, but Id leave it up to the executive in charge. So maybe Trent as a producer & co-songwriter, and guest musicians to fill out the role as a band. Im sure some lineups will be the same for many tracks, and other tracks could feature a different band. In a way I'd like to see Dave Grohl work w Trent on a simple but effective track for Britney, their dynamics combined could create a very catchy song esp if it was written for Britney.

And one guitarist I would choose (at least as a guest) used to be the lead guitarist for Megadeth....Marty Friedman, who has been living in Japan and has a love of pop music that he can separate and integrate w heavy metal & rock...he even named Circus and another Britney track in his playlist of the month. He is a brilliant guitarist, and his touch could make the album soar to new heights...although each individual track would need to be discussed as to songwriting.

Ugh. ...this is one subject I could rant and talk about for hours

I was so torn between Adult Contemporaryney, Trapney, Flumeney and Blackoutney, but I had to go with Flume because I think Britney needs another innovative album like ITZ, Blackout, and to a certain extent, FF.

You're a creative writer? What do you write? I ask because I write as well :)

Love your ideas btw. Britney's options are endless because her voice can mesh well with just about any type of music. I'd love to hear a more instrumental/rock/indie sound from her. And yes to the Megadeth guitarist, I like some of their music :mhm: It'd be cool for Brit to incorporate some metal. I'd die of happiness.

I would like Max and Luke with hits that make everyone go: Hey the real queen IS Britney! :mhm:

Completely Agree!!  Max has always had a hand in some of her best material and he has never let her down. And Dr. Luke also knows the Britney Brand and I'm sure will help make the album full of Danceney type songs! I would love love love an album that is somewhere between FF and BO!!   :Godney:

Maybe a cross between Danja and Max Martin.

I want the upbeat songs of FF, the grit, edginess and emotion of Blackout and the transitional but trendsetting appeal of ITZ :fierceney:

Yes Yes YES!!! In Between FF and BO sounds PERFECT!!
