That was... a great read.

And I agree completely. Some people may not realize it but Britney not dominating the charts or whatever list right now does not take away everything she has accomplished and what she meant for showbiz. The trend of teen girl Lolita's? She started it. The craziness of the paparazzi? She played a huge part in that. Not to forget the influence she had on music video's, low cut jeans and stuff like that.

Yes, she will be remembered. Just like Whitney Houston is remembered. No, they don't talk about Whitney everyday but you need to put things in the right perspective. First question: from what generation are you? The radio stations my parent listen to play Whitney quite a lot. My mother bought Whitney's LP.

thanks

I'm pretty sure someone will be listening to Britney (or Whitney, etc) on the daily or talking about her...and if not then they will listen to someone influenced, inspired, or motivated by her, etc.

Besides, who is "they" anyways?

Some people treat the relevance and remembering people thing, like that person is the most important person in peoples' lives...

Even your family may be forgotten by you for a day or more...but really "forgotten" just means out of current thoughts. So how can anyone be always remembered when the brain is only conscious of so much at any given time?

To people who say "Britney will be forgotten in x years"...how can they possibly know unless they are time travelers from the future...and even then they cannot speak for all of society? Other people phrase it as "she won't be remembered"...but that would imply that all of the data available about Britney on the web, magazines, merchandise, albums/dvds, etc. would have to be completely destroyed...and we all know that matter cannot be created or destroyed...so their argument is purely emotionally driven due to negative feelings, envy, etc.

We are living in the information age...how can anything be forgotten?

Ew. I don't like thinking about this at all.

However, if anybody in their right mind knows how to survey the landscape of music, they will know that she opened the door for teen pop again. She turned pop music on its head and didn't let up. And people, for the most part, know that, and know the influence she's had over the last 16 years. Even the haters know this.
Sometimes, I think people forget just how much of a BIG DEAL Britney was when she came out and just how fast she shot to the top. It was incredibly exponential. She set fashion trends, got girls wearing belly shirts and getting belly piercings, hip-huggers. When she did the Superbowl Halftime show, one girl in my HS wore a sock on her arm the next Monday because Britney did lol. EVERYBODY talked about her music videos, was always trying to do the choreography (especially the "Oops!" heart pump) There was no escaping Britney, no matter how hard you tried.

Even though it's tapered off a little bit now that she's older and settled down, that kind of legacy isn't going to go away.

Individually, people will remember her how they want, but collectively, I think she'll absolutely go down as one of the greats, where she belongs.

i'm pretty sure people will forget about Britney pretty fast after her death

But for me she will always be the ultimate pop legend

Britney will always be remembered. She has records that never will be broken. No matter what has happened in these past few years nothing can take away what Britney accomplished in the beginning of her career.

Lmao @ someone coming for Whitney Houston sayin no one mentions her yet she was trending on twitter literally a day or two yesterday for her bday and is compared to ANYONE famous that attempts the Star-Spangled Banner...not to mention the countless failed renditions of her classic hits EVERY year on American idol, X factor, etc....Whitney was a different kind of legend than mj and Britney...but that doesn't make her less of one b/c she's more of a legend than Britney will ever be IMO she changed the way ppl sang and started a trend of powerhouse vocalist similar to the way Britney started the teen blonde thing in 1999

Whitney like Michael and Madonna influenced every modern day popstar in one way or another...bring up vocalist and she'll be at the top of the list

Sn it irks me when these young uneducated brittards pretend that Britney mj and Madonna are the only ppl that are icons when that is far from the truth....Britney will be remembered the same way anyone that did something notable in the industry has...and just b/c ppl in your circle don't mention other legends don't make those ppl irrelevant or forgotten

By all means Whitney is an Icon. Britney said it herself that she was influenced by Whitney also Janet and of course Madonna. It is just Britney changed the Pop Industry and brought it back into the music "Mainstream". That has been Recognized Industry Wide not just by Britney's Fans.
