Why Didn't Preform At The 2011 Vma's ?

I don't think the VMAs took advantage of her in 2007.  I think she effed that performance up on her own - and not surprisingly due to all the shit that was going on in her life.  It was really unfortunate the way it played out, and it likely traumatized her.  I think a case can be made for the VMAs taking advantage of her "comeback" in 2008...sure, maybe they used her for ratings, but I also think she deserved to be celebrated that year...she needed that.  When 2011 rolled around, I think it was her choice to skip the performance and let them do the tribute instead.  The Vanguard award doesn't equal or necessitate a "tribute"...it can be, and in Britney's case, that's the type of performance that was associated with her award (probably because she had no interest in performing.)  I don't see anything wrong with the artist performing on the night they get a Vanguard award...in fact, it seems more than appropriate.

why does performing have to be labeled as paying tribute to oneself?  I do think her performance was way too long, but I see no reason why she shouldn't have performed.  

 

I'm sorry, but I am so sick of these forum discussions being about cutting down other artists to boost Britney up.  Britney doesn't need that shit.  She's in a league of her own, regardless of how awesome or lame everybody else around her is.

Because earlier that year Britney tried to have a US award show comeback and she was attacked by the fans. I get that the BBMA performance wasn't this great iconic moment but it was her first real award show performance since 2007 but the fans had a melt down making Britney aware that if she tries things that aren't comfortable for her the fans aren't going to have her back, so why do it?

 

Britney was much better by the time VMA's happened and it would have been fun and a bit Iconic if she would have done her tour performance of How I roll &Lace and Leather with Jo Calderone as the "lap dance" guy. But I think she couldn't erase how the early part of 2011 went from her head.

If we would think like this, then she wouldn't actually need to do Onyx/M+M/Circus/FF/Vegas tours and any promotional performances at this time because she didn't need to prove anything she was already a legend.

Yes that's obv true! It was the main reason why she released a duet with Madonna called Chillin' With You as a second single from her debut album Femme Fatale! It was amazing how she received 10 Grammy awards for it!

OMG yes that was amazing! Crossroads is an amazing thriller! I love it! We shouldn't forget about her 2nd album Me. I Am Britney Jean Spears. It sold about 100 mln copies World Wide! What a shame that she couldn't perform with it at her Hair Zone Mall Tour because of her knee injury while she was shooting music video for My Baby This video had very hard choreography imo!

It did have hard choreography! Makes sense she would injure her knee in that video. She's never the same when she performs it. Also E-Mail My Heart from her hit album The Singles Collection has such heavy choreography! She ever dances the same on it at her Hair Zone Mall Tour or her current Blackout World Tour.
