Don't be ridiculous, have you heard the speech that Beyonce used in the 'Flawless' song and performance?

'We teach girls to shrink themselves

To make themselves smaller

We say to girls,

"You can have ambition

But not too much

You should aim to be successful

But not too successful

Otherwise you will threaten the man."

Because I am female

I am expected to aspire to marriage

I am expected to make my life choices

Always keeping in mind that

Marriage is the most important

Now marriage can be a source of

Joy and love and mutual support

But why do we teach girls to aspire to marriage

And we don't teach boys the same?

We raise girls to see each other as competitors

Not for jobs or for accomplishments

Which I think can be a good thing

But for the attention of men

We teach girls that they cannot be sexual beings

In the way that boys are

Feminist: the person who believes in the social

Political, and economic equality of the sexes'

Okay, everything you just said makes you look extremely uneducated and immature. Even if you don't love another artist, don't try and dim their light to make your faves shine, Brit doesn't hate Bey and vise versa so why should you? Beyonce has said she heard that speech and was immediately inspired and used it in her song to spread the message, with full credit given to the originator Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, stop with the needless hate, it makes you look pathetic  :britney-arrow:

I'm trying to say, i loved this site because it was all about love and positivity and you saying ridiculous things and calling other artist's names just to try and make them look inferior is horrible. Stop the hate (because that's what it is) and start the love! Let's keep this site drama/bully free! :crying1:

Yeah. This speech is definitely worthy of the feminist title, as the speaker us an amazing feminist activist. The feminists that came before us would cringe at what Beyonce is singing around said speech. A song that used to say "bow down bitches" and now goes on to say how flawless she and her diamonds look.

Just because she puts one verse in a song that she was "inspired" by :frenchy: does not mean she is a feminist. If she wants that label on her it's so easy to slap that in there like it's nothing. Honestly, it's extremely hypocritical because her actual actions don't speak feminist at all. There are many other more feminist women out there, that don't have to shove it down everyone's throats 24/7 like Beyonce does. And I don't know why everyone is all YAY about her being a "feminist" because I didn't need no Beyonce to tell me and teach me these things, those are things my mother taught me when I was growing up as all mothers should do to their daughters and pretty much do in this era  :pieceofwhat: But that's another topic. I'm not just saying this to hate on Beyonce like I've bought Beyonce albums and used to like her when she was in Detiny's Child but her whole career since then is so egotistical and just basically I can't take it seriously, especially with the Beyhive being so far up her ass it's annoying and chased me away big time tbh. Also, Beyonce didn't deserve the Vanguard award. Britney and JT did when they got it. Beyonce? No.

You've completely misunderstood the song then because that song is all about empowerment and having confidence which is why she used that speech in that particular song she says 'Ladies, tell em...'  :4music:

How do her actions not shout 'feminist' because she has confidence in her body? because she writes and performs endless songs about female and sexual empowerment? Or is it because by expressing her confidence she isn't allowing others to tell her to have it? Don't even play the 'Beyonce didn't deserve the award' because we all know she is the biggest entertainer living at the minute. Just because we stan for Brit doesn't mean we have to put others down and be rude for no reason? I don't personally like Lady Gaga but i can still respect her work ethic and her success.  :britney-arrow:

She tried saying to be comfortable in your own skin, yet bleaches it? What kind of confidence is that? That sends a GREAT message to all women and black people. :frenchy: She tried saying that women can be independent from their men and shouldn’t surround themselves and live up to only be in marriage, yet constantly has Jay-Z on her hip and literally does nothing on her own anymore, and you hardly read anything about her own music anymore, all everything written about her ever is about her and Jay-Z. She doesn’t come across independent from him at all and relies on him hugely for success nowadays. This is the woman who also named her tour the Mrs. Carter tour, after Jay-Z’s last name, which is the opposite of feminism because if you wanted to be a real feminist, you wouldn’t name your tour after a tradition that was started to show a man’s ownership of a woman. The same person who sung lyircs “if you like it then you shoulda put a ring on itâ€, and sings about her life is “purposeless†without her man in Cater 2 U, yet goes and tries to label herself as a feminist? That's extremely hypocritical. Not to mention, if she wanted to be a feminist you would think she would use her platform to actually physically do something about gender inequality rather than say "I'm a feminist" and leave it at that. In fact, it would make her look like an actual feminist if she were to make an active effort to do something about it and then not shove it in everyone's face to show that it's something she cares about and is not using to gain attention, but obviously she is. Especially when she says "Bow down bitches!" like cmon  :frenchy:

I never once said she was a bad performer, and I'm not here to just bash Beyonce and doing it for no reason at all, it's my opinion and we are all allowed to have it and disagree, but what she has done that is in any way influential music-wise is VERY limited and not memorable, and that's a fact. :yeahsure: That's why she doesn't deserve the award. She hasn't even come anywhere close to making enough of an impact on music to receive an award named after Michael Jackson.

Hmmmm, no, she didn't deserve the award

Her videography will all due respect is shit, and is in no way iconic or worth mentioning

Just because she was able to properly marketize and sell her album doesn't make it good or groundmaking; the way she sold it did

Her performances are underwhelming after you hear her stans talk about it as well

She didn't deserve the award but neither did Britney deserve three awards for Pom...but she DID deserve to win...beyonce may not have deserved to win that award but it's all mtv could give her for her iconic status

Um no okay I hate to sound like we're harsh on Britney, but the only people who don't respect Britney like they "used" to are her fans. Britney is just as much respected as she was pre-breakdown and I don't know if you remember but I remember damn well and have kept all my magazines and such from about Britney era and up and looked over them from time to time and no the general public literally gives just as much respect to Britney now as they did back then. Everything Britney gets criticized for now, her lip syncing, her dancing, etc. was all criticized just as much if not more back when her current fans want that back because her fans are the ones that are never happy with how she is currently. E.g. Circus tour everyone criticized her for not dancing and having her old attitude and using props, come now everyone worships it. Every move Britney's career has entirely been controversial and is still to this day is, I mean look at how we discuss things. That is what made Britney the artist she is nowadays, why she has such a large mark on music and the only people who truly don't appreciate what she does now are her fans. Don't be going to try to say Britney doesn't have as much respect as Beyonce. You go and ask anyone out on the street who the most influential person of this generation of music and they will all say Britney Spears. I'm not bringing down Beyonce just to make Britney look like a better artist, that is generally what people think. Beyonce is just better at marketing nowadays is all.

Not people criticized her for saying she couldn't dance but they criticized her for dancing because that resulted in her lip syncing. The lip syncing and dancing at the same time thing was hugely controversial.
