The Vmas Tonight Were Supposed To Be Beyonce's Big Night But Britney Upstaged Her...

You're an idiot, seriously. Also, feminism is not a competition. Britney and Beyonce can both be feminists but PROPS to Beyonce for being open and consistent and public about it in a time when people are trying to make the word a negative. And Beyonce calling her tour the Mrs. Carter tour is NOT the opposite of feminism at all, you obviously know nothing about feminism. Please never speak about it again until you educate yourself. You have some correct views but most of it is trash. I love Britney to death but this comment trashing Beyonce is embarrassing to anyone with any knowledge of feminism.

Tell me to educate myself about feminism... um I minor in Women and Gender studies with a biology major because my best friends mother is the CEO of the YWCA here where I live so I grew up being interested in it because it's something I care about and was exposed to a lot growing up since I was over at their house nearly every day for 13 years. Thanks tho. :lmaolol: :lmaolol:  :lmaolol:  :lmaolol:  :lmaolol: Beyonce using that word for attention when there's a lot of other women affected daily by gender inequality is insulting to women who actually put in an active effort daily to help those women. Like if she actually believes that and is a feminist then fine but actually SHOW that and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT instead of just singing a song about it then telling people to "bow down bitches" like that doesn't come across that she's actually a feminist at all, it comes across like she wants you to worship the fact that she says she's a feminist especially with all the other stunts she's done to gain attention like really who's gonna buy that shit  :pieceofwhat:

Honestly I think Rihanna and Christina Aguilera are better role models as feminists than Beyonce. No you're right it's not a competition, but if she's gonna slap the word out there and wants to be known as a feminist then she should use her platform to demonstrate that and I know Rihanna didn't intentionally use that or uses her name to show that but that's inspiring for any women out there who suffer from gender degrading relationships to show that a controlling man doesn't have to run a woman's life and they can recover and that even after that they can be very successful without them. That to me is real feminism than just slapping in a verse in a song and putting the glowing words up on the screen imo.

So as performer, you like how Britney is now more so than how she was in her prime? Interesting opinion. Care to explain why?

I don't know. It's just everytime I see her onstage now I feel more proud of her now after everything she went through and is at the spot she is today like I just think she's amazing as a woman now. Yeah back in the day I used to view her as inspiring and successful but it's different now you know what I mean? I think I just appreciate her as a performer now than I used to because like I said we coulda lost her. She went days without sleep thanks to Sam drugging her and once you go three or four days without sleep your body shuts down and that's what I mean she coulda been gone and just to see her where she is now after everything and realizing her career and her as a person was in jeopardy and now after all that and everyone dragging her ass to even see her on stage to me is amazing and makes me appreciate her more as a performer now. Yes I do miss the ITZ fierceness like we all do, but really we all love nostalgia and like to look back on things and appreciate the past because sometimes we don't in the moment and that's how I think it was for every Britney fan, I believe that all we have seen from her is still in there somewhere, everyone has different sides to them, but imo she's just afraid to show it so instead of being all like "I miss old Britney" I'm gonna encourage the new Britney and it might come back somewhere along the way if she gets the confidence and when she wants to show it. I'm not gonna stay in the past and wish for her old performing styles to come back. I mean she can't have the same performing styles every era because two things would happen: she either would get bored or herself or the public would get bored of herself and niether are good. There would be nothing to talk about if it was the same old thing every era every day and I like how she shows us the different sides to her and the different styles of performing because there isn't one way to performing, there's many different ways and I think she wants to try things and show us the different sides to her personality so I think we should appreciate Britney era by era and see what she has to offer and wants to show us because it is her career and her performances so she should do what she wants, rather than begging for old Britney back.

She doesn't just slap words on a screen and call herself a feminist, though- you're saying that as someone who doesn't follow her at all if you think that. You're trying to shit all over her for declaring it in public like that by saying that it's fake but I disagree, I think it's awesome that she put it out there that she's a feminist because that word has taken on negative connotations for a lot of people and Beyonce is part of the reason that it will eventually change. Rihanna is not anymore of a feminist because she went through something that Beyonce never did but yes she is a survivor and an inspiration. I don't even remember the rest of your comment but like I said, her naming her tour what she wants & being proud to be someone's wife is not anti-feminist and doesn't prove that she's not a feminist so as someone with knowledge on the topic, I don't really know why you would think that. Christina Aguilera did great with "Can't Hold Us Down." Also, I still don't see what's so bad about Beyonce putting on a Queen Bee persona for a song- if one lyric is all you can hold against her to prove she's not a feminist even though she self-identifies as one as a woman (and that's really all that matters because you can't tell people who they are, she's finding her voice as a woman) than I'd say she's doing pretty good. She holds more than her own against the men in society and music and demands respect and I definitely admire that as a woman. This whole feminist thing may be partly a PR move but it's one with a positive, necessary message imo.

And re. "bow down, bitches"... we've seen Britney get cocky too... "living legend, you can look but don't touch." She literally declared herself a living legend lol. Which I love. I love when women show that kind of self-confidence, especially in music.

they are both getting richer and richer and couldn't be bothered by this, why should us?  :umomg:

Man I never intended to start this by "who's better" or to start an argument the purpose behind this was Britney doesn't even have to be at the damn VMAs for it to be about her, especially when it was supposed to be another celebrity's big night like  :pieceofwhat: I was just saying Britney's impact is that huge

Actually yeah I'll admit that's true. I guess her saying she's a feminist is better than nothing but idk it just screams attention to me because I think her vanguard performance should have been about her music career, after all that is what she got famous for in the first place, rather than slapping in there that she's a feminist. Sure that's fine that it went along with the song but just sing the song, because then that directed the attention away from her music which was why she was up there in the first place to her acts or non-acts of feminism and if that's what she wanted was to gain attention from it it worked but it was inappropraite imo. She shoulda just sang the song and let people appreciate her music. I don't think that was the time and place for it. She coulda easily done an interview (which I know she has), joined up with a charity for women or something like that would have been more suitable. I mean you get music awards for being a musician, not for being a feminist, and since it was an awards show about music it seemed like it was put in there moreso for the attention. If there was a humanitarian award in there then fine but really at the end of it all that image of her standing there with "feminism" at the background is the one thing people are remembering about her performance and not really even for the music so. I guess just the context of it all just made her feminist intentions questionable.

EDIT: Also yeah that's true, but you have to remember at that time period in her life she was fighting an uphill battle and girl has to hold onto something to believe in herself (although that is a little overboard but that was a one-time thing xD) Every other time Britney is the most humble and down to earth women. I mean goes outside with her hair in a bun and a tank top and uggs and no bar to go to Starbucks. Any other celebrity of her status has to put on a bunch of makeup and get all done up so I guess that's why it doesn't seem as you know what I mean? Lol.

I actually thought Nicki Minaj's Anaconda performance was the best one that night tbh  :P

I liked Bang Bang the best, idk, I like seeing people sing on a music awards show every once in a while. I'm definitely not a fan of Ariana, but I always respected Jessie. She has a great voice (and great legs)

I get what you're saying and understand and I know that Beyonce clearly wants that title of "Feminist Icon" so she went ahead and added that bit. It personally doesn't really bother me. I actually appreciate it. Especially after celebs like Scarlett and Katy saying they're not feminists, which irritates me because I loved Scarlett! It kind of changed my opinion of her a little.

And I definitely understand that you & most Britney fans admire her for her ability to remain humble. I love that too!

Lol sweetie no fans were complaining when she was slaying era after era in her prime and no one got bored either...I'm also happy she pulled herself together but her breakdown was years ago and she's shown she's capable of more than what she displays sometimes so my sympathy went out the window long ago...I'm not gonna accept any and every thing she does b/c she had a hard time b/c life is hard for everyone and she doesn't do certain things b/c she's lazy not b/c she can't. She had a hard life but she also had a great one as well...dwelling on to her hard time isn't any different from dwelling on her former greatness bai

That's my problem with Beyoncé too. She can be a feminist or sing about it but why do you have to spell it out? Why do you have to show it in big letters? If you're a feminist then it should speak through your actions, nothing more.

But that's Beyoncé. Years ago she said in an interview that she was over being a pop star and wanted to become an icon. Fine, then DO something that makes you an icon. But don't talk about it.

Idgi if she is over being a popstar and wants to be a feminist icon so bad why doesn't she just retire from music or make them her side projects and open up a women's charity to help or something else to speak up against gender inequality and make that her focus. She could easily be a more respected feminist icon if she did that, and it seems like that's what she wants honestly. Plus she's gained enough of an audience that people will listen if she actually put in the proper amount of effort.

Jessie does have a great voice. I'm not a huge fan but I have some of her songs in my music library and she's definitely a good artist.

I agree

I love that chair choreography and her green outfit with the body paint idk the performance was just awesome as a whole I kinda wish she did it as a solo performance tho.

Lol it was hardly just b/c of Britney...beyonce was the only major popstar other than maybe Taylor but no one checks for Taylor's performances....in 2011 beyonce performed, Britney attended, gaga performed, Taylor performed, and Rihanna opened etc. all the pop girls stans were tuned in that year...but yes Britney deserved more ratings than Bleachonce it's Britney bitch
