Dragneel Posted August 26, 2014 #51 Report Posted August 26, 2014 What does being humble have to do with feminism? It literally makes my heart hurt that you are questioning Beyonce's feminism because she wasn't "humble" about it. I feel that is anti-feminist. And she can decide to become one later in life, not everyone picks it up when they're young, especially in a society that is constantly telling women how to think and feel and act. It's hard to shake that and it's admirable that she is learning but the latter half of your comment is the best one I have read in this thread. Her performances aren't why I consider her a feminist but they do not hurt that title for her at all. I appreciate that you stated, "Adichie of course would defend everyone that wants to consider himself/herself a feminist because you can't exclude people and choose who is worth of this title because it contradicts the essense of feminism" because I agree with this 100%. I just don't agree with your relation of humbleness & feminism. Humility may be something you admire but it's not a required feminist attribute...feminists do not all have to think and act the same. It's not that I disagree with your opinion on feminism...I disagree with this statement: Beyonce-->Feminist... This success recipe is getting a little old you know...Find a significant and relevant cause, sell your name along with this cause properly and boom, you are again at the spotlight... Gaga for instance claimed in the past that she supports LGBT rights but she was actually using it to promote herself because almost every single one of her fans is gay... Now Beyonce claims to be a feminist in the most cheesy way possible and the only thing that makes sense with this statement is that sometime in the past she released a song called "girls who run the world"... However, there are celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Madonna that proved that they didn't exploit ideals and causes for the shake of fame alone...Both of them adopted children that needed food, family and shelter and that's they least that they did... Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that every single celebrity on this planet uses such causes to promote themselves because they promote ideals along the way... This doesn't make them less fake and hypocrites though... And to make it more Britney relevant. I love the fact that Britney is not trying to sell herself through causes that have nothing to do with her just to make a comeback...It makes her a little more genuine than the rest...
ahulyk Posted August 26, 2014 #52 Report Posted August 26, 2014 Why is this pointless thread in a Britney section? The person who started it and this thread need to be deleted ASAP!
Caroline77 Posted August 26, 2014 #53 Report Posted August 26, 2014 Hahaha, well neither are the other topics trashing Beyonce but whatever. Who are you to judge another woman's level of feminism? Why are you questioning her when she herself is telling you that she is a feminist, instead of supporting her? She is finding her voice. So I'm not a feminist because I don't hang out in rape crisis support centers? That's ridiculous. I do what I can when I can, just like Beyonce who does more than most because she's publicly advocating for the movement in front of millions. And what the fuck does it mean to be "an advocate, not a feminist"? Seriously, you're grasping. You're putting Beyonce down by saying she's being sexy and that it does nothing. It does do something because females are sexual beings and they are still shamed for being that way- look at what's happened to Britney all these years and now Britney gets anxiety from the thought of judgment and being sexy. Beyonce controls every aspect of her image and that's just how she is and that is fine. That doesn't mean she's doing it to attract men or because society tells her to. She wants to look her best & she takes pride in her image. There are other feminists and women who take a different approach. For a feminist (I'm assuming), you are one of the most critical, self-important, obnoxious ones I've ever come across. I can't stand when women bash other women and try to tell the who they are and how they have to be. She can be hyper-sexualized if she wants to, just like Britney wanted to. I would lose all respect for Britney if she were to come out and say she was not a feminist. You should be able to own your sexuality and I find it weird and ridiculous that you're shaming her for it in a culture where that behavior is lauded & now here you all are getting on your high horses bashing Beyonce for it, saying she can't be both sexy and a feminist. LMAO and bear in mind, she's not even that bad in comparison to her peers. I agree I wish she had the self-confidence she used to and kept that voice she had where she was always questioning people. Lmfao. Since when Britney is a feminist tho ? She never claimed herself as a feminist and that she was fighting for women's rights or something. Just because you are confident in your body or whatever doesn't mean you are a feminist, and why the fuck you would lose all your respect for her if she wasn't a feminist ? That's the most stupid thing i've ever heard. Beyonce can be hypersexualized, but gurl please that's not a feminist move, and she's like that since she claims to be a "feminist" so it's worse because that's just a fake image, as usual. So yes, anti-feministic because she doesn't want it, it's just a role, a publicity stunt, she's faking it, and she's doing it for attention and be on top and everything, plus she's not even sexy, she's vulgar, and i'm sorry but there's a different between both, if she doesn't even have self respect how the fuck people could have respect for her? Feminist women can push women to be confident in their body, with their sexuality, and being sexy without being ashamed of it, but certainly not being vulgar. If she was really feminist she wouldn't do this, we all know the industry wants to hypersexualize women, and feminist would fight again this instead of just acting like that, that's just paradoxical. And no i'm sorry females aren't "sexual beings", what the fuck does that even mean, we are not animals or a piece of meat, or sexual toys ffs. That's just a fucking anti feminist statement that i'm sick of hearing all the time. That's how men actually are seeing us "sexual beings" because yes, a woman is nothing but a sexual being for some of them, a piece of meat walking on the street that they want to eat. And that's the actual real problem, we can't be comfortable with it because the thing is people just see us as "sexual being" and nothing else, that's even what is causing street harassment, and apparently you seem to be a part of these people, and you claim yourself as a feminist ? No wonder you think Beyonce is feminist when your own statements are anti feminist in the first place. Oh and, by the way, you are not a feminist just because one day you put a word "feminist" behind you, and you claim to be one.
britneystanstan Posted August 26, 2014 #54 Report Posted August 26, 2014 Who cares if she wants to be submissive sometimes? Feminists can't want to be submissive? She also has Single Ladies/Irreplaceable/Flawless. You can't tell a woman or a feminist how to act, that is not what feminism is about. I don't get what you guys don't get about this. She wants equality, she supports women, she supports female empowerment, she says she's a feminist, she declares it in public, she makes music catering to women and uplifting women- there is nothing anti-feminist about any of this. Your biggest complaint is that she's too sexy (please) and that she has a lyric where she tells bitches to bow down and show respect. I guess we'll agree to disagree but screw you if you're going to tell me or any of my friends they're not feminists because they show off their bodies or they're over-confident or sometimes they want to be in a submissive role during sex (with their husbands!). I did not say she was being too sexy, I was saying the image is submissive. I'm not dictating how she should say or act, my point is that the fact that submissiveness is very present in her image and style shows that her "feminism" doesn't translate in her art. How does equality translate in any way in her MVs? The typical gender roles are still in place and it's obvious. She even has a borderline sexist song If I Were A Boy, basically defining males as drunkards and cheaters And it's different in real life compared to how it translates in art. You and your friends are over-confident and show off your bodies because I'm sure you've given it thought and it fully expresses you as a person. It is the full expression of your choice and no one put you in that position. What others in this thread are saying is that in her videos, Beyonce still looks like the typical bimbo, dancing half naked next to Jay-Z because guys and girls will think it's hot. She's fulfilling a role. She's fulfilling someone else's fantasy and that tone is clear in her videos.

Oh and, by the way, you are not a feminist just because one day you put a word "feminist" behind you, and you claim to be one. I would hope britney is for women's rights and equality. None of my statements are anti-feminist. Quit being an asshole. When people say women are sexual beings, they're not saying it like you're implying in your ridiculous post. They're saying that women shouldn't just be respected if they are "pure," and they should be allowed to be sexual in the way that men are and should be able to enjoy sex like men do without being judged as harshly as they are for it. Girls are shamed all the time for the way the dress/ how many people they've been with and they're saying that women are sexual beings and having more sex with more people doesn't mean you're worth less, women are allowed to just enjoy sex too and not be disrespected for expressing that part of themselves. And beyonce specifically is showing that you can be a mother and not lose that side of you, and not have to feel bad about it, and she's stated that before. Of course sexuality isn't the only important aspect of feminism but it IS one part. Beyoncé is not vulgar and if that's the case, britney has been just as vulgar as beyonce if not more so. Completely naked minus diamonds in toxic, touching herself and making out with a guy on stage in bom/tomh in her underwear, stripping and pole dancing in gimme more, completely naked in the opening scene of womanizer, posing in her underwear in a huge wine glass for fun, grabbing her boyfriends penis on a balcony in front of a bunch of paparazzi, cheating with someone who already had a family, allegedly cheating on the love of her life, making love to her real life bf in the shower in criminal... Stop hating on beyonce, especially when you would be praising britney if she did them.
brintyjeans Posted August 26, 2014 #56 Report Posted August 26, 2014 Why isn't this posted in general? This section is here to discuss topics like britney goes out and about with david not whether beyoncé is a feminist or not. 1
britneystanstan Posted August 26, 2014 #57 Report Posted August 26, 2014 And Jesus, I hate how in this post-Madonna age, people equate hypersexuality = feminism. If you're being a whore so guys will like you, that is not feminism, that is low self-esteem. And what Lia was trying to say is that THERE IS somehow a shallow feminism and to me, the lowest form is focusing too much on this sex thing everyone's obsessing over. There are victims of domestic abuse and unequal wages for men and women. But, let's worship Gaga and Beyonce because they inspire women to fuck whoever and however they want! Such feminists and saviors of society When did sex become so central and transformative in people's lives when there's so much injustice around? It's pop music, an escapist industry, nothing more, nothing less. It isn't meant to be taken seriously and I'm glad Britney didn't jump on this cringeworthy, try-hard bandwagon. 1
Betty Draper Posted August 26, 2014 Author #58 Report Posted August 26, 2014 Beyonce has the power and influence to actually do something with regards to helping women. So I think she should go beyond saying she's a feminist and singing songs about it (although that's a great start). Not every person who supports feminism can go out and do stuff, I totally know that. I'm just annoyed by how "look at me, look at me" she is about her approach. Also, if I decide to wear my high heels, I'm not doing something that's feminist. I'm just doing what I want to do. It's totally fine for a woman to do whatever she wants (and she should as a free human being), but don't put a feminist label on it just because someone with a vagina does it. Being hypersexualized is not a feminist act, seeing as women's bodies have been seen in such ways since before the movement came about. Had the movement not come about, women would still do such things (whether to please men or themselves). And thank you for calling me self-important and obnoxious, although I never called you anything. Anyone can claim to be anything, but their words do not automatically make their claim true. I appreciate Beyonce for spreading the idea of feminism around, but she's only scratching the surface. Telling women they can do whatever they want does not solve the deep-seated issue of female oppression. "Shaming" is a term thrown around so often. I can't even state my own opinion. .. Beyonce is not doing anything that goes against what women are expected to do in order to enforce gender roles. A woman can objectify herself all she wants, but one shouldn't call it progressive or breaking boundaries. You sound like one of the Jezebel.com types, fighting for choice and little more. Choice is a wonderful thing to have, but from where do women's choice originate from (i.e. marriage, prostitution, wearing more revealing clothing)? Not from good, feminist places. They can make someone happy, and that's fine, but it's not feminist. I will say that a woman being confident in herself is amazing and can encourage girls to feel the same, but confidence for a woman has become happily taking on the hyper-feminine roles assigned to us. I question Beyonce mainly because she seems so contrived. Everything must look perfect and complement her perfect image. And celebrities taking on the feminist title seems to be the new trend (not saying, it's bad, but perhaps not completely genuine). So yeah... I think it's fine that you think it may be contrived. What I take issue with is that it seems like you're telling women how they can be a feminist and kind of restricting them to your view and standards of a feminist when there are, in my opinion, many different ways you can express yourself as a woman and be a feminist and someone who is for equality. I want women out there pushing sexual boundaries and doing the things men do with pride just as much as I want the kind of feminists you're talking about to be out there. Men love seeing women naked yes, but they also make them feel bad and used for it so I love seeing women take control of their sexuality. I also love the kinds of women out there who don't make that the main reason you're attracted to them- like emma stone or emma Watson. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings, that's just the vibe I got from your post. I'm seriously pro- women and I don't appreciate women putting other women down.

You are giving 50 replies to the thread about Beyonce being feminist while other threads about Britney are flopping... It's Britney forum where not many people give a fuck about Beyonce and since VMA y'all are talking about her more than our Queen Britney! Tell me, why? BUMP FOR THE FUCK SAKE!

If I came off as putting other women down, then I apologize. Never would I ever want to sound like that, at least not intentionally. Sexuality should be embraced by women with no shame, I agree, it's just the context of said claiming of one's sexuality I worry about. Beyonce (and Gaga, for example) has a way of doing things that make me think she's doing it just for attention. With someone like Britney, she has no shame and is so effortless with how she portrays herself, I can't help but see that as genuine self-expression.
BLACKOUT<3 Posted August 26, 2014 #61 Report Posted August 26, 2014 i'm not sure why you quoted me, i don't know what thread you made or what you're talking about. i was talking to the op of this thread, but tbh, i agree with you i made the does britney derserve more vmas than bleachonce 1
BLACKOUT<3 Posted August 26, 2014 #62 Report Posted August 26, 2014 you know damn well britney's opinion on sexuality changed massively as she aged past 17 and she was never shy about near nudity so idk why you're dissing beyonce. because i dont view bleachonce as a feminist..

breakitdown Posted August 26, 2014 #64 Report Posted August 26, 2014 ...tell you exactly why she is a feminist (besides the fact that she herself identifies as one!!!) I think that's where you're making a mistake. You're basically saying that someone calling herself a feminist IS a feminist? That's not true. You're a feminist when you DO something that shows you're a feminist. Screaming you're tolerant for example doesn't make you tolerant either. It should speak through your actions. Anyway, I'm not going to deny she is a feminist. She says that woman should be powerful, independent, strong, confident about their bodies etc. Fine. I applaud that. But look at it this way: after her pregnancy she wanted her old sexy body back as soon as possible. Does that scream feminism to you? To me that says she feels woman are only accepted with a skinny body? That's exactly the problem in our society! And if Beyoncé is a feminist then Britney is too. In fact, lots of female artists are. Because lots of them are showing skin on stage, they're showing they're confident about their sexuality etc.
LiaLovesGodney Posted August 26, 2014 #66 Report Posted August 26, 2014 not sarcasmOh. Well thanks :cutelaugh: 1
Archie Posted August 31, 2014 #67 Report Posted August 31, 2014 If she's a feminist, she's a very shallow one then.
