I was a fan from the beginning of her career...and at that time she wasn't necessarily a gay icon. I think 2007 really pushed that forward, and you end up seeing a larger online gay community support her.

There are some gays who like to fuck w strait fans and make them feel out of place. I think for some of them, they feel uneasy around heterosexual so they project those insecurities and try to prey on the insecurities of straits. The thing is, not all strait people are homophobic, so it doesn't work...especially on a Britney site. Many strait people are open-minded and accept gays, and I am willing to assume most hetero Britney fans are not homophobic.

I've seen those comments too, and it seems reactionary and defensive on the commentors part. It's very easy to make a joke out of a hetero Britney fan, and for once the tables are turned where gays are the majority...so really they are just taking advantage of that, whether subconsciously venting aggression that has been turned on them in society, or purposely out of resentment and their desire for the feeling of power in the situation

It's only a certain percentage of gays who do this, and some bisexual people who believe that there is no such thing as hetero. I do think that the majority like to see the diversity and feel acceptance in the fanbase, or just don't care. We should afterall, care about people for the content of their character and not about the way they are born (or personal decisions they make in their private life that don't hurt anyone).

I think the right thing to do Goten, is to just be polite, understand they are often oppressed and mistreated, and not take it personally. If you show love in that situation, it only helps the struggle for all people's acceptance. Take the higher road, and try to be understanding. If they go far w insults, just ignore them. Afterall the LGBT movement cannot go anywhere without the cooperation of strait people, and just cuz they are being a dick one day doesn't mean they will always be...especially if you kill w kindness

This was the exact comment I was looking for! :mhm:

Because Britney makes "girly" music (whatever that's supposed to mean. Because she rocks being feminine and sexy maybe) and people have this sigma about gays that they have to be girly to like each other. Straight men, according to society's standards, are supposed to be big and tough and not "girly" like Britney's music, especially her early music because it's bubblegum poppy, just like Nsync was. I suppose that's the reason.

Honestly I think it's stupid. Like what you like and do what you want to and fuck what society says. Britney makes music for everyone to enjoy. I'm sure a lot of straight men out there like at least one Britney song. My boyfriend likes some of her songs.

Really? Why if gays are socially accepted ppl still call me "", "cunt" and stuff? :zoomzoom: I think it's the other way around, sweetie. I don't judge on straight fans, i think ppl who do and ppl who also judge us gays are ignorant idiots :pieceofwhat:

Did you not see "in general"?

And honestly, no, it's not the other way around

Both sides get slack for nothing

I was called gay by my own brother for liking Britney

That's obviously not nearly as big as oppressed as gays were once, but it's still an issue

I'm a fan of Britney Spears and i'm a lesbian. Then many people have asked me why i'm not a fan of P!nk :4music: Yeah i like P!nk but not a hardcore fan.

So that "not accepted" thing not only happens to straight guys.

As if all female fans of Britney were straight, and all male fans of Britney were gay.

That's why I said "girls"

I never expected lesbians to be categorized like that...

First of all "911" is flawless.

But I think straight fans aren't accepted mostly because Britney's a pop music singer. Unfortunately it's a huge stereotype that if you're a guy and you like Britney, or almost any female pop singer for that matter, you're gay. Of course there are exceptions like Rihanna and Katy Perry, but mostly because they're popular and it's considered "cool" to like them. Rihanna especially since her music leans more towards a hip-hop/urban sound. I'd say about 80 percent of Britney's discography is straight up pop music. Of course not just straight up pop, her music will always have flares of different genres like EDM, urban, ballads, etc. But her music does appeal more to gay men and women. I mean, lbr, could you see a straight guy bopping to songs like "Gimme More" or "Work Bitch" :drown:

I bop all the time to Gimme More while playing GTA5 :coffee:

No, but seriously. It does get annoying as a straight guy when people are like "There's NO WAY you can like Britney Spears and be straight"....

I can't like Britney as a straight guy just because she has a predominantly gay fan-base? Psh

Bottom line, nobody's gonna tell me what my sexuality is based on who I listen to. It's ignorant of anyone to do so.

Yeah, exactly! I grew up listening to Baby One More Time, Lucky, Stronger, Me Against The Music and Toxic... could I have stopped loving her only because almost everyone else hates her? I don't think so. But do I want to be hated by almost everyone only because of what I listen to? So I decided only to tell my best friends and other Britney fans what music I listen to :crying1:

Don't be embarrassed. Own that shit! It ain't their place to tell you what you can listen to. I like Britney, but I also like some Metal, lots of Indie, Country and loads of other shit. Sometimes it does feel "gay", yeah, but fuck it. I like Britney and that's that. People can suck a dick and get over it.

Thank you, for encouraging me to express myself! :bffs:

I agree that Rihanna is a real exception, but Katyperry??? :wutdafuck: I'd rather tell everyone that I love Britney, Madonna and Kylie (which is the truth) than that I love Katy, Miley or Caca :queenflopga:

because my 3 faves are at least iconic and classy while those wannabes are not :yaknow:

This tbh I hang around shitty hipsters all the time and they've all come to accept that Britney is top tier pop that's well produced and generationally defining. I love sneaking in Mannequin Freakshow or Inside Out to our playlists sometimes and seeing their reactions to how it seamlessly goes with most of our indietronic tastes

Interesting :xf1: and I agree, a lot of Britney songs, for example Hold It Against Me, would have been "cool" if it wasn't Britney singing it

This fan base isn't very accepting of anyone. Not straights gays, straights or even britney half the time. Toughen up. Grow some thick skin. Has britney taught you anything?

Wow wow chill out :drown:

I'm not crying over it, we're here to discuss things, aren't we? Exactly :icant:

It's just..

I think it's hypocrit of gays to be this judgemental over anyone's sexuality, since they've dealt most with it ignorant people not accepting certain things :coffee::yaknow:

I just wasn't expecting this shit, lol

Too bad they included it on a shit radio station :gloria:

I hate most of the songs on there except for GM and Glamorous

Yeah. The stripper music station :ummlol:

But I like Robyn's "With Every Heartbeat" on there and Kelly Rowland's "Work".

My brother usually makes us listen to radio Los Santos.

Speaking of my brother, he loves Dragon Ball Z and would appreciate your name. :)

I'm not against straight fans actually i think it's great. But to me it's kinda weird, not that a fan might be straight, but the fact that britney's universe is kinda cheesy and a guy who's very masculine and everything could be fan of her (and by fan i mean, not just listen to 2-3songs, but really a fan, who's following every moves, buy every albums etc.), i mean, i have a friend who's a straight guy and fan of her, and some guy that i barely know but i know they are britney's fan and straight, but all of them are a little feminine in their manners and style, so.. i dont know. But anyway yeah, just because you're a britney fan doesnt you're gay.

You have to agree that Katy Perry is super popular right now. Literally everyone listens to her. Old, young, men, women, etc. She may make some "gay" bops but because she's popular straight men may listen to her because everyone else is. At least that's my opinion.

And sis :drown: Britney, Madonna, and Kylie are three of the biggest gay icons ever. Maybe it's because I'm 18 and a guy, but I would never tell anyone I listen to Madonna. And I don't think a lot of people know who Kylie is in the states.

EDIT: And no one listens to Flopga anymore lmao.
