I don't think this video is part of a thread, if it is, I'm sorry ;)  ... The interviewer asked Godney, which hispanic singer she would like to make a song with? , and she answered Marc Anthony :P

I know this won't ever happen, but I would love to hear Britney singing in spanish :crying1:

I'm not  his  fan but Marc ??? I'm Latina and  I think yes, I don't know if you know him but in the latin music and he  is, especially in the tropical music or 'salsa', define an icon in Hispanic music is very different than in the Anglo music .... the Anglo-Saxon countries identified as Latino icons for example shakira, Jlo or Ricki Martin but  marc into Latin music  always is  big in sales with a solid career and one of the most respected by the industry itself, I mean maybe it's not like shakira or  ricky martin ''worldwide'' because his  demography is ''salsa music'' but  is an icon into the Latin music there are also others who are not so famous .....as juan luis guerra, juanes, juan gabriel ( mexican singer) etc...

Yes I know him. Imo Juan Gabriel is more of an icon than Marc will ever be. To me an icon has music that transcends generations. Marc is popular now, but I don't see people singing his songs 15 or 20 years from now. I'm from Mexico so when I think of icons I think of Pedro Infante and Vicente Fernandez. Maybe it's different in other Latin countries, where salsa is more popular.

I don't think any latin performer is an icon but he needs some credit. I was reading the other day that he is the latin artist with higher concert tickets sales and earns millions each year, and his shows are amazing. Of course i don't think he is at the level of singing with Britney.. but maybe a cool salsa performance together?

I'm listening to marc anthony since I was a child, he is in the music since lates of  80's  and I am 26 years perhaps in mexico he is popular now, I'm Dominican and tropical music  is much closer to Mexican music for  me and for example that what I mean about that ''define'' an icon in the Hispanic music is very different .... and yes juan gabriel maybe is not a icon and he is something of a legend .....but his music is also more universal than marc anthony juan gabriel sings ballads and marc sings salsa......

No, thanks.
I think she just named him because she probably doesn't know too much latin artists...
Although he's not latin, a duet with Enrique Iglesias would work well.

I love that she mentions JLO afterwards.. Kinda awkward

That inherent JLo shade tho :bj:

Britney can be so "blonde" sometimes... :frenchy:   :lmaolol:

I agree. When I hear the word icon, I think of britney. So anyone else labeled an icon I compare to britney. And I'm not trying to shade but marc like u said is not on britneys level (but few people are). But he has a great voice and he's good at what he does.

Let agree to disagree :) I think this shows how culturally different Latin America is. Just because 2 countries speak Spanish doesn't mean they are culturally identical. I wasn't brought up listening to tropical music. It's not the most popular genre in northern Mexico.

I agree with you and is what I mean for example by my parents I grew up listening to many Mexican artists like Juan Gabriel, Jose Jose, but most of them sing ballads in my country regional Mexican music is not famous for example, unless you're alejandro fernandez who also sings pop music I think the same thing happens with other genres like salsa, bachata etc .... for example i sure in mexico vicente fernandez is a regional music icon but maybe is not as big in countries like Argentina or Uruguay, so I think the same happens with marc anthony.........

is what I told of 'genres' is very limiting and I do not think in Argentina people known many great artists of merengue or bachata for example .... I think your country is more rock or cumbia, Latin america is very diverse in genres for example about artist of your country the day that Gustavo Cerati died I was like oh what pain that great artist and my cousin was like who is he? and I said I can believe that you dont know who is gustavo or soda stereo that was one of bands more influence of latin rock but is the reality,   in puerto rico or in my country gustavo was not  very famous I know that marc is very famous in countries like Venezuela, Colombia, Chile, puerto rico, etc

yess, I think it is bc we're a mix from different origins and we're so influenced by the whole world so is really hard to "monopolize" the whole latin america in one genre of music, like you could do with Pop music in North America, I mean I know pop music is not the only genre there :frenchy: but it is the most mainstream one, the one you can listen in radios or clubs while here there is a mix of reggaeton, cumbia, rock etc :P

Exactly, but also I believe Pop music is more universal, it is much easier for any artist of any country in Latin America be known throughout Latin America than any other artists sing other genres such as tropical or regionals ...But it's true what you say about the power of mainstream that have the pop artists in U.S.A :)
